[OTZ80] [Poll] Do you want a battery indicator light?
« on: August 25, 2010, 02:00:45 am »
As the title says: do you want a battery indicator light?

Consider the pricing, the usefulness, etc. when choosing.

Note that the light can be under the power button, on the top, etc. (no actual decision yet), and
that the software can also display the battery levels at the same time (with the LED included).

I actually would prefer just a simple LCD battery indicator on the screen.

A on-screen battery indicator would probably be best. No need for LEDs.

But remember, a simple LED has minimal cost (a few cents), and who knows - maybe one day some programmer will find a cool use for it.

A calculator doesn't really need an indicator light, though.

I agree with that. On-screen battery indicator seems better to me.

I agree with most people here, A on screen battery indicator would be better. Build-in ones could also break a little easier I guess...

I agree with the built in idea, but if we have a LED for power on the system, could we make it flash when the battery gets to critical levels? (PSP style)

Or, how about a multi-colored LED, that a programmer can control.  Maybe have an IR sensor on the top with the light, so that two calcs can be put together and talk via that lights and receivers.  No cable needed.

We shouldn't have an led, the OS can just interrupt a program and display the warning message, or even do a "hibernate". The IR port sounds cool though I think they are banned on the SAT.

IR is banned.  I'm talking about something that would have to be literally right next to each other to do.  They would have to be touching for it to work.  This would only be for file transfers on some flat surface or something, not for two player games or transferring info over a long distance.

Yes.  What do you think of the transfer idea?

Hmmmm, i think cable would be more strait forward and cheaper.  That way the same cable that you need to connect to the computer is the same cable to connect to other calculators. (or same port at least)

you mean like the gameboy colour? that was the coolest thing ever! however, i agree with builderboy here. if you want IR why not make a usb attachment or something and have decent capabilities. not everyone is going to want it, and any sort of wireless communication is going to freak out teachers and test mods
