Oh shit Geno, I have suddenly fallen for your theory instead of whatever more generic theory with the same basic conclusion I was previously supporting. And for one very simple reason. You drop the title in your rationale. "Code Geass" makes sooooo much sense. In fact, after reading that, nothing else really does make sense!
In other news, I think I'll talk about some other upcoming anime I'm looking forward to.
High School of the Dead, a popular ecchi/survival horror manga, is being given an anime adaptation some time this year. Probably easy to mess up the more subtle features of it, but, due to its ecchi nature, the anime will always have something entertaining to fall back on.
Additionally, Mai-HiME is supposed to get another anime added to its list of spinoffs and sequels. I haven't watched any of the Mai-Otome series yet, so I can't speak for the quality of derivative works so far, but Mai-HiME itself was actually pretty good, despite the infamous cop-out ending.
This coming season (Spring 2010), I'm especially looking forward to Angel Beats, which is a collaborative "mixed media" project involving the ever-beloved Visual Arts/Key VN studio. Key's Visual Novels had all been previously animated by KyoAni (there was some Toei stuff too but it sucked and nobody cared), but this time, they are working with PA Works (an animation studio) to write and animate an original story. I've watched a PV online and I have to say I've been given a lot more confidence in the ability of another studio (other than KyoAni that is) to work effectively with Key.
