More ideas for map colorization, assuming xLIB supports a similar color palette:

Thanks. TO be honest the layout in the first two screenshots reminds me a bit of SNES games, even though the resolution is blockier. My only real concern is how limited the color palette will be. I know that some 256 color palettes barely supports any gray. I also wonder if it will be easy to swap the colors of a sprite, to prevent having duplicate sprite data with only color as difference.

Super Nintendo version of SMB3 converted to TI-84+CSE BASIC colors (in case at one point someone decided to use Celtic II or limit himself to those colors for one reason or another)

Yeah the GBA one used SNES sprites from Super Mario All Stars. I think SMB2 did too, but there are new enemies and stuff.

Also I wonder if someone ever considered making a ROM hack of SMB3 using All Stars graphics with a reduced color depth? I think it would definitively look cool. :P

Not with xLib, it allows you to use the full screen height. :D

Oh I see. I haven't been paying close attention to CSE technology lately, so that slipped under the radar.

Even 320x240 mode would be fast enough horizontally. The problem would be vertical scrolling, though. It would have to be like SMB2, but it wouldn't be brutally slow like some people think. Probably 12-20 FPS when scrolling horizontally (with mario moving at 2 pixels intervals). Even in the worst case scenario, there is no way that CSE horizontal scrolling, even at high res, would be like in Super Mario Bros Special for the NEC PC-8801 (not the NES ROM hack).

Basically, for horizontal scrolling on a CSE, you simply wrap the screen around itself using the built-in z-adressing support, then only draw the column of tiles you're scrolling into, along with moving enemies around.

Here's a title screen mockup for an idea I had on the 68k series...
Due to dissatisfaction, I will be inactive on Omnimaga until further notice. (?? THP hasn't been much success and there's also the CE. I might possibly be here for a while.)
If you want to implore me to come back, or otherwise contact me, I can be found on GitHub (bluebear94), Twitter (@melranosF_), Reddit (/u/Fluffy8x), or e-mail (if you know my address). As a last resort, send me a PM on Cemetech (bluebear94) or join Touhou Prono (don't be fooled by the name). I've also enabled notifications for PMs on Omnimaga, but I don't advise using that since I might be banned.
