The 3-layer greyscale routine used by Axe. How many times does it iterate to constitute rendering greyscale for 1 second, approximately?

Hmm, I'd say look at the devs folder in the Axe zip, all routines should be in there.

There is no built-in iteration mechanism to update grayscale in Axe. The programmer updates it whenever they choose to. Up to the LCD's refresh rate, which is around 60Hz, more frequent updating usually means better quality.
