SwitchRPG
« on: April 26, 2011, 07:36:56 am »
This RPG (which still remains somewhat nameless) is my first attempt to write a game for the Prizm.  It takes advantage of the basic language's strengths and attempts to downplay some of the weaknesses (it takes 5-9 seconds to draw an area on the screen).  Development has been halted for the time being but I will gladly pick it up again in the future, especially if hybrid basic becomes possible or if I have time to try to write it in C or anything related to that.

Features:
7*21 areas-5 included now in this release
Dialog with other "characters" (those would be the magenta T types)
Color  :hyper: (limited due to you-know-what)

Progress:  100% of minimalist storyline Complete!
53/53 areas have been created.
53/53 areas are present on the calc.
53/53 areas have been storylined.

Screenshot of the previous version.  Does not represent the current version though, I anticipate an animated screenshot of the real game coming soon. nvm, trial expired...

More Screenies (They're not supposed to be transparent, transparency is not supported in the game

Available now is the first release.

Minimalist storyline has been completed!
After a lot of time and two sets of batteries, the essential storyline of the RPG has been completed.  There will be no animated screenshots from me though...

As you will be able to see, the size of the game is staggering.  At approximately 42kb in size, it fills up 2/3 of main memory.  This is why I have finished only the essential storyline.
Because of size constraints I am halting the development of this game.  I really can't do much more than what I have now without using up all of main memory.

I would love to have discussions about the future of this game as I would love to use it to test out any basic language modifying programs in the future.  I happened to create this topic right before the Axe contest started and as a result, it got pushed off of the front page and nobody noticed it.  That can't be helped and I have no hard feelings about that.  If anybody has any questions or comments please post.

This looks great, and it shows a great use for text drawing with color :) this is an awesome use of Prizm BASIC to make a game.  Great work, keep it up!

Hmm I completely missed those screenshots O.O (or maybe they were added today?) This looks nice for ASCII and I'm glad to finally see a color ASCII PRIZM game in action.

I'll have to try this eventually :)
