Metroid on a Casio PRIZM... if only that became true...
« on: June 18, 2013, 04:33:32 pm »
O.O

I just found this old project on Planète-Casio at http://www.planet-casio.com/Fr/programmes/voir_un_programme_casio.php?showid=1986&page=2

It hasn't been updated since 2012, there are bugs (such as Samus randomly moving in the wrong direction) and it is short (game ends after the boss), but imagine if such game ever got finished or at least got a fully playable world. Oh and the framerate is around 2x smoother on-calc during the game.

Looking sharp. I'd get a casio if this was a full game.

It looks much like Metroid Fusion for the GBA. :D And yeah I'd get a PRIZM if it was finished.

Someone could maybe try to make such game on the CSE calc, but rooms would either only scroll horizontally or à la Super Mario Bros 2 for max speed or lower resolution would have to be used.

I already know there is a version similar to metroid 2 for that.

It is a pity that the Prizm is always compared to the Nspire series. Prizm coders are discouraged to see Nspire programs not run on the Prizm (like Doom being fluent on the Nspire and lagging on the Prizm) and don't code a lot so there are not many Prizm games around.

But they really should keep coding, this Metroid mockup is the proof that the Prizm is, even if less powerful than the Nspire, a good platform to develop for.

I really hope that this game will come to fruition one day, and not stay only a one-battle game.

I own: 83+ ; 84+SE ; 76.fr ; CX CAS ; Prizm ; 84+CSE
Sorry if I answer with something that seems unrelated, English is not my primary language and I might not have understood well. Sorry if I make English mistakes too.

Considering how fast Doom ran despite the much lower RAM, 2D games that looks better than GBA or SNES games would be more than possible. It just depends of how well they are coded

Also if the Casio Metroid game ever gets completed, I hope that Samus won't be a guy anymore O.O (see intro if you speak French)

That is cool to hear. I hope it gets finished, since so many projects fall apart right at the start. >.<
