Long lines
« on: May 14, 2011, 10:05:47 am »
OmnomIRC lets me put in ridiculously long lines O.O

Can that be shortened? Or maybe doing white-space: no-wrap?

EDIT: Newlines are allowed too, apparently.

Wow... I wonder if that even makes it to IRC...

It should probably be fixed in case people abuses that. Also it might cause confusion, because people might type lines that ended up longer than expected, but think they showed up fine for everyone else, when it's not the case.

Wow... I wonder if that even makes it to IRC...

Some clients actually block it:

Quote from: #omnimaga
[08:03:53] <+jimbauwen> Hmm.. it doesn't appear in irc

Maybe Netham could just add some CSS to prevent wrapping? That way if anyone hax's their way to putting in a really long line it still doesn't show.

It seems the line is shorter in JosJuice's quote. I think it is fine, though, if IRC supports them too.

I cut the max length in half. It's still possible to directly call it with a longer message, but it's easy to tell who is doing it, and we can just ban them.

Ah ok good. Personally I would set it to 128 or something, even if IRC allows longer lines sometimes. It will discourage ppl from using long lines. Does it stops letting you type at 250 or does it just truncates your line?

It stops letting you type.

I had it set at 128 before and it was annoying how short it was. People had to send 2 lines for one message.
