So, what is it about? It's all about playing mafia! If you don't know the game then check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia_(game)
Now, this bot plays the game manager/narrator.
So now, how do I use this bot?

CitizenYou are citizen, you can just vote at day who to kill, your goal is to kill all mafia.
DetectiveYou are detective, part of the citizen community. During night you can find out who is mafia and who not.
DoctorYou are doctor, part of the citizen community. During night you can save a person from death, but you don't know who will die.
JustinYou are justin. If you manage to be killed in the first round you win the game, otherwise you are a normal citizen.
HunterYou are hunter, part of the citizen community. If you are killed you can kill immidatley one other person.
GardenerYou are gardener, part of the citizen community. If the detective spys on you he thinks you are for the mafia.
FoolYou are fool, your own party. If you are killed in the night you don't die, you are 'sharpened'. If you are voted to death during day and are 'sharpened' you win. If you die in other ways you lose.
FreemasonYou are a freemason, part of the citizen community. You know all other freemasons and know for sure that they are not mafia.
MatchmakerYou are matchmaker, part of the citizen community. During nighttimes must choose two people and it returns if they are in the same group or not.
MafiaYou are mafia. Your gole is it to kill all citizens. You can kill a citizen at nighttime!
TerroristYou are terrorist, part of the mafia community. You can't vote during night-time as the other mafia, you don't even know who the other mafia is. The other mafia also don't know who you are. During daytime you can bomb a person, that person will die immediately, so will you.
GodfatherYou are godfather, part of the mafia community. If the detective spys on you he thinks you are for the citizens.
About starting the game - I tried to make it as user-friendly as possible so when starting the game you can choose which special characters to use. You have to have at least 4 users joined the game to be able to start it. Then, you can type ">start" to start without any special characters, or, if you prefer with special characters you can do stuff like this (now for doctor and detective as special characters) ">start doctor,detective". If you enter some stuff invalid like to many special characters etc. it will only display that it is invalid, not why, as that would have been a LOT more complex. If your type-lazy you can also only type the first three letters of a character, so for doctor and detective it would be ">start doc,det".

Admin-stuff:
MafiaBot features also a user-right system, it is only there to prevent if someone blocks a game or something like that.

What's a good number of people who are mafia compared to citizens?
I made now that max 25% of all users can be mafia
EDIT: for those who haven't noticed, atm MafiaBot is running on #omnimaga-spam for some testing :D
usage (need to program a help section, lol (if you are on OmnomIRC replace /msg MafiaBot with /msg Sorunome):

md5-hashed, the algorythim is from the internet :P
If that is outside contest rules i'll change that ^^ (but languages like php have that algorythm built in)
(I also use base64 encode and decode algorythm from internet to make it possible to have pm omnomirc support (and that is everything i didn't do on my own, but maybe be able, lol))

That's really a GOOD bot, even if it's not finished yet :) carry on this way !

The md5 is fine my only concern was whether they were cleartext. For the comp players maybe make them be able to talk a little?

but the point is they are not in readable text by humans, and yeah the AI might be a little hard to code(thouhg it would be awesome)

Yeah, passwords can't be read by humans if they don't look at the program output as I cout everything the bot recieves for debugging. Well, it would be possible to hardcore brake the passwd by trying through every possible solution :D

So, I have made a lot of work without posting about it O.o
first of all, I programmed a help section! :D You access it either by typing '>help' or by pm'ing the bot help. To get more detailed help you do stuff like '>help vote'
Now, I made a bunch of special characters:
Detective: Can spy out a person during night and see if he is for/against mafia
Doctor: Can save one person during night, so if he is killed by the mafia he is still alive
Justin: If he manages to be killed during the first day the game is over and he wins alone
Hunter: If he dies he can kill someone immidiatley
Terrorist: He is for the mafia, but he doesn't know the other mafia, they also don't know him. He doesn't participate in voting during nights, on day he can kill someone but he dies then too (suicide bomber)

If you have any other ides for special characters then tell me :D

The missing characters are "Armor" and "white wolf" (from werwolf - the original game)
Armor cupples two persons. If oneof them dies, they'll both die

the white wolf participates in voting at night, too!
but he also tries to kill the other wolfes!
He wins when every wolf except him is dead!
(other wolfs try to kill him, too! They don't know who he is!)
in ecery round, he ills one of the other wolfes

Well, you asked for ideas:

Mathematician: he can sacrifice himself during the day and then choose a group of people and gets answered how many of them are murderer.
Gardener/Miller: The Detective thinks he's of the mafia.
Cleaning Lady/Godfather: Opposite of the above.
Driver of oil-tankers (seems like translation is serious business  :) ) : when he dies, his neighbours also die (needs an arrangement of the players in a circle... or any other graph if you want to make simple things complex :) ).
Freemasons: Normal Townspeople who know each other.
A variation of the jester/Fool: he gets sharpened when the mafia tries to kill him (he survives this (first!) attack). He wins, when he is sharpened and is killed by vote. So he dies, when the mafia kills him twice or the town kills him before he is sharpened.
Matchmaker: During night he chooses two people and get the information whether they are in the same party.
Liar: He votes for the person to the left (or right, also needs an arrangement).
Three-headed monkey: He is just a distraction.

And did I understand it correctly that the liar can then ONLY vote for one single person during all game?

Okay, so here some clarification:

Freemasons are just ordinary townspeople, so they have no special ability, but they know every other Freemason (it is equivalent to the murderers, who also know each other, so they know during daytime which other persons are on there side).

The mathematician is on the "good" side, and can help his side by sacrificing himself for information (as described below/above... oh directions are so relative), he chooses a group of people and the GM/bot returns the number of murderers in this group). He has no real advantage of this information, as he then is dead, but the others can use it for the discussion/vote.

The Liar votes for another person (left/right neighbour of the person he appoints) in every vote he participates. So he can choose a different one. (I do not know if you plan to have a secret vote, but afaik they are public).

For the Fool: He has to different states: sharpened and unsharpened. At the begin of the game he is in the latter state. If he is killed by vote during daytime, he is dead an is unable to win. If he is killed in the night by the mafia he gets sharpened (the GM/Bot tells him, if this happens, he survives this attack). If he is sharpened and then is killed by vote he wins (or is the only survivor), otherwise he loses (so if he is killed by the mafia again).
The only gray-zone that could happen, is if the healers heals the fool in the same night he gets sharpened. This case is a GM dependent, so you can implement that as you wish.

(as if you couldn't implement anything as you wish :) )

as he wishes... it is a bit selfbalancing: if the group he chooses is too large, he doesn’t get very valuable information (as in under these 14 people 5 are murderers), if it is too small, chances are, that he is not very helpful (as in random townie is good, so that's great, but it is not that helpful that others had to die for it)...

But don't think that the roles are so strict as I describe them here, these are how I know/play them. For gameplay and balancing reasons it is often reasonable to adjust them, for example by making the terrorist known to the murderers, disallow the healer to heal himself, and so on. So be encouraged to just take these rules as consideration and adjust them as you please.

This reminds me of an existing IRC MafiaBot on Rizon (sorry if you think this is advertising, trying not to make it seem that way).
It's really complete with scripts and a lot of roles, as well as several commands and leveling.  You should check that one out for ideas. (Mafbot.com)

Good luck developing a good mafiabot :)

edit: If you want to know some roles from that mafbot, here they are:
Civilian: Doesn't do anything but watch and vote (until Lvl 4 where they become a good role)
Killer: Well, kills.  Works alone, unless someone invites him to help.  Can't be killed unless by a kill_killer command or hanged
Mafia: Kills.
Detective: Checks people and is able to kill people

These are the roles that start to get added in when there are more players
Mafia's snitch: Works like a detective and sees what the other people's roles are
Mafia (again)
Homeless Bum: Works with detective, checks people
Schizophrenic: Sees if people are 'asleep' or not. Asleep means they are a role that doesn't do anything (civ) not asleep means they do something.  20% wrong
Doctor: Heals
Prostitute: Sleeps with players, which figures their roles, is a neutral role, can infect with AIDS
Mafia's lawyer: Watches a player so that if hanged, will be considered innocent
Mafia's agent: Prevents players from checking whoever the agent watches (they get the wrong answer.  check maf and get civ or something)
Drug lord: deals drugs, figures what roles people are, neutral
Hacker: Hacks and publicly tells what the victim's role is, unless faked
Hitman: Kills people when requested

Extra's (after dead)
Ghost: tries to kill who killed him.  Doesn't work otherwise
Farmer: Can kill anyone, however misses like 90% of the time
Crackhead: A zombie revived by  druglord that does what the druglord orders

:) And this is only the basic stuff, nevermind when the roles start leveling up

Just a word of advice: build a framework before building the bot!

When I was coding AtomBot (and subsequently its clones Lua2TNS and AtomASM), my code became so unmanageable that I simply gave up and started anew (which also hasn't really gone anywhere :P). For me, I was just writing a command based bot - you're writing something more complex!

Basically, you should have some kind of system (an OOP one is nice) that handles commands, server communication, etc. Then you can be sure that you cover all of the possible communication cases, and have a solid foundation to build on! :)

If you already have done that... kudos to you! You've done something I should have done a long time ago... :P

Since I doubt the database goes with the bot it will probably switch over to all acounts deleted when its run for the contest(since he gave me the source I said I'd set up its own channel and run it from my server)

It is playable on omnomIRC but you have to pm me there instead of mafiabot (it reads my pm) so do /msg sorunome new user <username> <password>

You can change your passwd already, but not resetting it with email. But it would require omnimaga account connection when making a new user. deleting a acc on the other side would be easier ^^

It remembers your last identity so you are still logged in if your identity didn't change (e.g. if you used the last time OmnomIRC (wait, i forgot that you need to enter the old passwd :P))

That the contest is over doesn't mean that the bot is finished! First i'm making so that it won't be offline of omninet after a week or so (i got a good idea ^^) and then i'll reprogramm a lot so that it is easier to add more - FEATURES!
So, if anyone has idea, please tell me! I had the idea of adding email and then you could recover your passwd or maybe email at special events (if enabled)? If anyone has other cool ideas, tell me!
AAAAAAAAAnd, as some of you may have noticed, the texts for when night falls/it is day time are different from time to time. I'm welcome for other texts for that so that there are more possibilities :D

I'm glad to see that this will continue beyond the contest. I was hoping that people would continue projects past the contest. The idea of it was to inspire computer dev on omni :P

I cant wait to see what this ends up becoming. If i have any ideas I'll make sure to tell you.

The email idea is a must I'd think. Though I'm not sure how you'd want o implement it. probably with an email given on registration and a command to get a code to reset it like nickserv does.
I would also stay away from the levelled systems some other mafia style bots use as it can be seen as giving older players advantages over new players.

And last I saw you were winning by one vote. You deserve to do well though MineBot is pretty cool too.

So, I made it now running! it is now on efnet, omninet and freenode, all channels have the name #omnimafia,
It would be so cool if there could be a omnomirc #omnimafia channel ^^

EDIT: So, what is the poll about?
I just thought about it and noticed that a lot of stuff would be easier if I would use mysql as database. But then I thought - why not merge the www.sorunome.de database with mafiabot database? That would allow some awesome interlinking of accounts with a lot more features! So, what do you guys think?

Well, thanks to deep thought it is now even more OmnomIRC compatible. Now you can just ALWAYS and EVERYWHERE write /msg MafiaBot <stuff>
so no more writing /msg sorunome :D
AAAAAAAAAND, i'm porting currently the database to a mysql database, it's almost finished, and some of you may already know - i'm working on a webui of this bot!
oh, and the bot is now on #omnimaga-games ;)
so, please comment someone, else i'll have to make in some time the fourth post in a row D:

Yes, i made it happen: You can now add a email to your account and if you forgot your email you can recover through it! :w00t:  :w00t:

So, the commands are:
/msg MafiaBot set email <emailadress>
/msg MafiaBot recoverpasswd <username>

And have you adde4d a max. number of password-emails per hour?
(else it might be used for a pam-attack to one's eMail-account! ;)

yes, they are added to the help section, no, there is no spam-protection (so far), i also want to add a query system ;)

I could, seing I still have the source, too bad the DB was on 57o9, though :P
But I didn't have too much motivation on this because others interest was pretty quickley like none <_<

EDIT: Congrats, you just got me back to C++ :P
