building a computer!
« on: December 05, 2010, 03:38:20 pm »
Ok. So, I'm not really back but I just thought that I would post something and I wanted to get some opinions on this. I am building a new computer and I am buying these parts: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=14559305

I will hopefully be able to afford them all and build everything well. I wanted to know what I would maybe change, add, remove, etc. to better my computer.

note: there are missing things (such as hard drive, mice, keyboard, monitor, speakers, etc) because I already have those things.

GTX 580 FTW! please dont tell me that's way overboard, thats the last thing I want to hear in any reply >.< im buying that specific model for a reason

Man, that GTX 580 is WAY overboard, j/k

The i7 looks nice. The Ripsaw ram looks like it has a good price for 4GB, the only thing I'm curious about is that tower.  Unless you plan to do liquid cooling, I would go with a bit cheaper one.

Other than that, looks nice.

One tip: Unless you're an intel fanboy (some people are) AMD Processors are faster for their price. Plus, the Phenom II is faster than an i7, if you're going for super-awesome. There tend to be fewer mobos for amd tho.

Your video card is out of stock :P may I recommend this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814134124 one? same RAM, GPU, and even a lower price, plus it's in stock. :P

That will be one awesome computer :P drool

of course, you can ignore my input. You'll still have an awesome computer.

Reason being is that its just a preference of mine to go with evga. Also, not exactly same speed.. :P I am buying evga's super clocked version so its slightly faster. Also, I don't really mind that its out of stock because im not buying this thing any time soon as you can imagine. Yes I am an intel fanboy lol, so thats why im going with the well known solid i7. Dang aslo i just realized lol i might wanna buy the haf 932 case *with the side window* :P it wouldnt be much fun without that kool side view :p

it's probably better to buy it all at once, just so you know you'll be able to get everything and won't end up having to compensate if something is discontinued(i doubt that would be an issue, as it sounds like you're going for common/well known parts, but paranoia is always a good thing when it comes to electronics.) additionally, it will be much more satisfying if you buy everything at once.

Waaay overboard. Still, you're lucky to have such a big budget for it. Also, you could probably get a cooler looking case for the money you're spending on it. (Unless you like it on the plain side) May I recommend this one?

It'll probably run at 2560x1600, and with the right hardware, in 3d vision (120fps).

Oh yeah, and one more thing - There's rumors going around that a GTX 590 will be released, which would be epiiiiiiiic!

Darn... when I bought my computer (i7) lots of people said I had a powerful machine, but if I max out Starcraft II settings and resolution to 1920x1080, I get about 14 FPS. For a good speed increase (between 10 and 35) I need to set it to 1280x720 and for max FPS, medium settings.

Good luck Snake X with building your computer!

What GPU do you have?
It's annoying how PC manufacturers get a great CPU and completely ignore the GPU to cut costs - and if you select a GPU upgrade when you're buying, it's like $200 extra for a $100 card. And laptops, unless you go with a pricey gaming one, there is almost always only integrated graphics.
My computer cannot play any games. It has a Quadro NVS 120, which is a GEforce Go 7400, with the Quadro brand, and drivers optimized for 2d gfx.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 230 1536 MB. It has high memory, but I'm not sure if it's good otherwise. Some 32 MB cards trumps 128 MB ones. Example: my old Intel Celeron 128 MB card has no pixel shader 2.0 support, but some 32 MB cards do, it seems.
