somehow the 3rd one seems better to me. Also if you are mostly gonna use WIndows at school I would recommend against a mac computer since those usually offer less for their value and have lower compatibility with stuff such as calc softwares.

yeah I was thinking more toward the Lenovo T410... It has biggest screen and pretty good graphics and speed... It was just a bit ugly (most of lenovo's laptops are) :P

I generally don't care about ugliness, unless it's pink :P. As they say, it's more the inside that's important, not the outside :D

I would wait until other people give their opinions, though. I do not know if the 3rd laptop processor is better than the two first x.x

the lenovo 410 looks pretty nice, I'd go for that one in terms of all around features. If you already own a pc of some sort though, I might go for the mac. They're supposed to be pretty nice and it'd be fun to be able to play with one for free (they are fairly pricey).

IIRC the series of processors i3, i5, and i7 are Intel's newest line. Yeah, I'm gonna agree with everyone else and say the 410. But, again, depending on how badly you need certain software, if you like them, you could try the mac. I am personally more partial to PCs, but that's just me. :)

Do you have any information about the pricing? That would be the deal-breaker for me, since a couple of these have similar specs.

Even though steam is coming to Mac, it is not enough if you want gaming on a laptop.

I heard macs aren't very good for gaming purpose. Something about graphics card or other stuff I think. However, I often heard macs were very good for multimedia dev, such as video editing

I don't really like the first one, since it doesn't have optical drive (which means I have to buy the hardware to run the thing or something that can abstract and run the ISO image) and that's a hassle...

No, I don't own any pc of my own...

btw, another alternative is:
My friend wants a mac because he does the video editing and stuff.
He has a toshiba (with 15' screen and numpad so it's pretty big) with windows 7.
I'm not too sure about the specifics because he doesn't know exactly what model it is...
So what he suggested is that I get the mac and trade with him. I'm going over to his house tomorrow so I'll try to get the specifics. I know that he bought it fairly recent (around 5 months max) and the only problem Toshiba has is that the DVD driver is not working. He said if I'm going to trade mac with his, he'll fix the driver problem before he gives his Toshiba to me. Hopefully it will be a good deal
(btw, his laptop was only $500, because it was on special sale or something like that... But that kind of worries me, because the laptop from the college are all around $1000, so I might be getting a bad end of the deal)

it would be nice if you got an even better laptop. Just be careful, though, in case.

Yea, that doesn't sound like the greatest idea in the world to me. I think you'd be best off going with one of the brand new ones the college is offering you. That lenovo 410 really is looking to be your best option.
