laptop hunting.
« on: June 26, 2010, 05:34:43 pm »
I'm buying a laptop. my price range is $750 at absolute max, and I have found one that I think is a good one, but I wanna see if you guys have anything better. I am strongly towards a gaming laptop - something that can play half life 2, runescape, portal, etc. NO INTEL! I found what I think is a good one here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152159

edit: <our dear friend's name here> has shown me this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834157269
I think that is just fantasic.

discuss.

The troll spray works! :P

Wait until I get on IRC and start omnomnizing, though. :P

That said, I cannot help much on helping you choose those laptops, because their specs seems to feature stuff I don't know much about, such as not showing the video memory and stuff. I personally would go with enough memory and a 64 bit OS, though, and a relatively good video gard is required for recent games.

Didn't you get one already? Or was it just planning?

I would say the second one, but I have no experience in video cards, so...

Ah seems good. Did you read the reviews for the second one too? What did they have to say? Also do you mean the first COD ever?

I'm not sure. I wouldn't think so either. Also, my sister said that when she researched laptops that gateway was a bad brand.. Idk what to think anymore to be honest.. the only brand that I havn't herd anything bad from is toshiba. Im not sure either if im going to be able to afford one. I just need a good laptop that can do great gaming for around $750. Any suggestions on that?

edit: I fell in love all over again..  ;D

That last laptop is overpriced, you could get an i5 for that price. I wouldn't worry about the gpu that much.
Just rely on your default/motherboard onboard one.
The RAM seems fair, but I would upgrade it to 2x 4 asap.

Aren't integrated GPU usually lower performance than most others and unsupported by most games? Maybe I am wrong. It might be nice that he is not stuck playing games from 2005 or before on it either.

True, but with the proper drivers you could make a hack-ish simulated video card.
On my main comp (with some sick specs), I still use the integrated one. (Basically, because I do not need a specialized video card)
-Intel Core i7 980x (6cores + 6 virtual)
-24gb RAM (204-pin SODIMM DDR3, 6 x 4gb)
-256GB SSD - Samsung Solid State Drive
Do I need to say more?

Ah ok. I assume you need to be careful which drivers you choose, though? I remember messing up my old comp before with that... x.x

Ofcourse, you have to be careful with every hardware edit/upgrade you make.

YES! integrated graphics cards are THE WORST. Also, i don't want to rely on some hack to make it "semi-good". Graphics cards is my foundation for this hunt. You gotta realize, the Nvidia GeForce 420M is a graphics card that is coming from the top of the line graphics card series! To me, thats pretty dang important.
