Whoah, I checked out the ASUS laptops on Newegg and they are all right except for one thing: The screens! They only have crappy WXGA's. So... imagine a 17? widescreen 1280*768 screen! YUCK! :x

Ewww! Cough, cough, choke. Blah...
If I were to buy (or ask) for a 17" laptop, I would definitely go all the way baby -- WUXGA 1920x1200.

Nice.
If you dun care about the screen too much buy it now! You will notice the screen if you do anything other than gaming on it tho.
It's not much pixel real estate to work with. Other than that though it's all uberness of dhoom!
It kinda sucks they don't offer the 7900 in the customizable one though... Then you could change the screen to wsxga+ for $50 more.
Yeah go for it though. Even though battery life will be poor, 7900 is like... twice as good as my x700 lol.
You will be able to play next year's games at the uber settings.

I got my laptop back yesterday! Hooray
The LCD Panel was broken, so it had to be repaired (although the warranty does not cover that
). It's a Samsung R50 (bought in November 05) with an Intel Centrino 1.73 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 60 GB HDD, 15,4'' WXGA (it's like a mirror...) and an ATI X300 (it's not the best one, but I don't play games anyway). I formatted everything; it runs with three partitions now (Fedora 5, WinXP, Data). B)

it would be GigaBIT LAN, not byte (8 times the difference). That seems like a machine.
I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-27. PIII @ 500mHzn 128MB RAM, 20GB HD, Win XP Pro (I know I am nuts running it on this comp)

D00D, get more ram. o.o
How can you survive? Isn't there another slot? Buy a gig stick and shove it in there. Also... external hard drive. 20GB is like... 3 videogames and no anime.
Also, my bad. bit... I knew it sounded weird when I was saying it too lol. I blame cryzble for messing me up! >:0 j/k

I know I have to, I can have up to 320MB in the Machine (the 64 built in plus a 256 stick in the slot that has another 64 in it). The problem with and external drive is the USB support, it is only 1.0 VERY slow, and if I want 2.0 ports, then I loose some network stuff (only two PCMCIA slots, and no built in networking). The laptop is really only for shcool right now, and I use the MUCH MUCH MUCH better desktop for most everything else.

LOL usb 1.0??!! Do they still have those?! Rofl. Well, if you only use it for school, how much battery does it have? That would be the important thing then.

Hmm, buy Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion fer sher. It is definitely the coolest single player rpg out atm and it will look f-ing sweet on a nvidia 7900.
Buy counter strike: source 'cause it's only $20 and it's
still
the current favorite lan game. (or you could just get Half Life 2 for $4-50 and that includes CS:S) Seriously,
everyone
has counter strike.
I intend to buy Haze and Battlefield 2142 when they come out.
http://hazegame.uk.ubi.com/
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-87069131846849265&q=battlefield+2142
For real time strategy games, the best looking ones atm seem to be Age of Empires III and Star Wars: Empire at War but I have bought neither of these. We still play AoE II.
And if you have any moneys left over Battlefield 2 is my favorite fps atm. :>
But yeah, Oblivion and cs:s are neccesary and in the future bf2142 and haze.
