if you have a compaq Pc that came with a ball mouse, you might need to just upgrade the Compaq.

You should get a http://www.3dconnexion.com/.
I use something similar to this at work to design parts with CAD.

It has 6 degrees of rotational freedom, and 2 more if you include pressing and pulling (the model I use supports this).
They're a bit more pricey than a regular mouse, but I bet you could totally pwn in games with one of these.

I like to game. :Dbiggrin.gif
I got a new mouse purely because my old one was like spiraling the mouse around, and it was killing me in games.

They are horrible for gaming. I don't know how I used to stand it. Even top of the line ball mice can't compare with the cheapest optical ones. You have to leave the sensitivity really low for a ball mouse to have any real accuracy. I needs me twitch sensitivity!

nah, if you shell out at least $30 you're probably going to get a pretty decent mouse.

i don't game, so that's no issue ^^

though I wish I had a mouse w/ no ball.  It's smoother.

Actually I have a MS mouse that I got for $10 and it's been pretty good. It's rather inaccurate on weird surfaces but with a mousepad it's fine. If you jack the sensitivity to max in windows it makes it better too. For the price, MS mice are nice.
