Well, you have Fraps and Hypercam2 which are free but have a small little add on corner.

Then there's the great ones but are paid like CamTasia.

I personally use HyperCam2 free because it's very easy to do.

Most gamers use Fraps, though.

What about Camstudio?

See, now I want to make a screen-recorder for my mac. Actually, I used screenflow for mac at one point, but it had this horrible "screenflow demo" thing on the middle of the video.

Just thought I would put some mac info in here in case anyone was looking.

I'm not sure, but can't CalcCapture record the screen?

It certainly records the calculator's screen, but I guess you're wondering about the computer's screen...and I don't know the answer to that one

I think you select the area of screen to capture, so its compatible with any area of the computer screen, just made for calcs.  I remember Sir or someone else recording Buckeye's pokemon red alongside a gameboy emu with it.

Yeah, but IIRC, there is a limit to how big you can make it, so it wouldn't record your entire screen.

Oh yeah, I remember now.  Of course the entire screen would be required.

In options you can choose whatever capture window you want. At 256 colors, the quality is questionable, though. (Although you can use grayscale).

There's HyperCam and CamStudio. I recommend the later because it has smoother framerate and doesn't put a watermark in your videos.

Fraps only works in fullscreen games that actually changes your computer resolution.

VLC can be made to record the desktop. :)
Edit: It does take a bit of tweaking, though.

Really? Nice, I didn't knew about that. If it's complicated I would personally not bother, though, since I know different and easier alternatives.
