Windows program shutting down randomly
« on: September 06, 2007, 06:00:00 am »
ANyone know what could cause windows programs to suddently shut down when the Open/Save as is open for more than 2-25 seconds? It happens to me all the time and its annoying when I need to save as and I lose everything, or having to reopen the app all the time. It happens with most 3rd party apps, like Photofiltre, Image Studio, etc.

If there is a fix for this could someone direct me to it?

It only do that in Windows XP

Hmm, how old is your windows install? Windows is known for getting f***ed up after awhile.

Have you tried replacing the RAM module(s) for your computer? Usually if programs quit unexpectedly (even in MacOS, not sure about Linux distributions) it's either because there isn't enough free RAM available or the RAM module that is in the computer does not agree with the computer all the time (aka isn't compatible with the motherboard)...

There was one program that used to do this to me. I can't think of the name though...

It was really weird. It would do the same thing that you described; open the save dialog, and then close about 2 seconds after I click on anything. I'm not sure what is causing it. It only used to happen on that one program for me.

Could it be using .net framework? Maybe there is an error in the .net framework.

Really? Is there anything common between those three computers other than their operating system?

If it's mostly imaging software that's crashing your compy, it's most likely that you're trying to save too big of pictures, and the software itself has crappy memory management. Only real thing you can do is save often and run only one or two programs at a time :(sad.gif

I wouldn't exactly blame it on freeware. I think it is just the programmers. Windows Movie Maker does this too me a lot though.

really? I had no problems with saving/opening files on it, nor any other microsoft programs. it just happens with most freeware stuff (not all tho), maybe most programmers miss one important thing in their debugging process that make them do that.

else its my comp or windows install, but it would be weird because all my previous xp install did that

Hmm yeah it generally happens a lot to me with WMM and Microsoft Word. Although they save backup files every 10 minutes for which I am thankful. Or else I would be pulling my hair out right now, but they still do crash usually.

Or perhaps a better set of programing standards that adress issues like these.  Besides, xp is infinitely nicer than vista...(*cries* because higher end pc with vista preloaded sucks more than several year old xp laptop)

I guess that is why Dell has become kind of popular these days (they can pre-load XP instead of Vista in about 66% of their computers, as well as pre-loading Ubuntu in some of their desktops)...
