Anyone playing Project M ?
« on: April 30, 2014, 02:12:54 am »
Note, this is not a calc related sub forum, so I am not talking about calc84maniac's Mario game, but the community Super Smash Bros game :P

So I noticed there were some Smash fans here and since I just installed Project M on my computer and I was wondering if there were people here playing it too, so maybe we will be able to Netplay sometimes a bit (during Summer, not now, I have a lot of school projects -.-).

Just for those who don't know, Project M is basically Melee with Brawl graphics, or Brawl with Melee gameplay, see it the way you want :P

Sorry if I answer with something that seems unrelated, English is not my primary language and I might not have understood well. Sorry if I make English mistakes too.

What's the problem ? :P
It's a good thing to have a fresh game (because I agree that Melee is the best, but it's old, graphics could be better now and everyone know its maps by heart :P) but still with the right gameplay, isn't it ? Plus developpers added maps, like ones from the n64 Smash game.

Fortunately, I have a 3DS. Unfortunately, I don't have a Wii U so I'll only get what the 3DS gives.
I am excited about getting a Smash game while it is still sold (because playing Melee nowadays is kind of retro, even if it is awesome) but on the other hand, if they did not revert Falco to what he was in Melee, I don't know who I'll play. I might try some new characters in that case, like Rosalina or Greninja.

Someone should do a calc version *hides*.
I'd like that :P

Hmmm, don't call the GameCube retro. :P It's my baby.
* Streetwalrus goes to pet his GameCube Gollum-style.

Nah j/k. Even though it's almost 13 years old, the GC survived through time pretty well unlike the N64 which looks like crap compared to it (even though it's still quite awesome).

Also I recently started playing SSBB so I might consider Project M to play with you. :D

Lol, it hurt me to say that too considering how good that console and games for it are good even nowadays (which fighting game can pretend to be better than Melee and which race game can pretend to be better than F-Zero GX ?). But I said "retro" as in "can't find them in regular stores".

Well you'll have a shock from Brawl to Project M :P
Also, are you playing on computer or Wii ? Because I don't think we can play together if we are not on the same platform.

(Note, nothing like piracy going on here, nothing prevents me from buying a game to legally get its iso even though I don't own the console it is meant to be played on, and fortunately there is some sort of a retro game shop in the city I live in).

I'm playing on Dolphin with PS3 pads because I don't have a Wii nor Wiimotes nor GC pad adapters. :P
Also I don't own the game but don't tell anyone, mmmkay ?
::)

Also I'm currently building a patched ISO with this.

But cool you are playing on computer, we'll be able to play together :D

That's exactly the same tutorial I built mine with, so I guess we won't have compatibility issues (except if Netplay requires exact same versions of Dolphin on both platforms, like with the same last numbers and all -.-)

Before we consider playing together, are you good at Smash or not (so I think about being in your team against CPUs or against you :P) ?

I'm an average beginner. :P Also I always use the latest nightly build of Dolphin but I can switch to 4.0.2 release if needed. ;)

Ok so I can try to play against you without being humiliated , right ? :P

Ok, but... where do we see the exact version of Dolphin ? In "À propos", I only see "4.0" and not "4.0.something".

In the titlebar. I have 4.0-1487 (the latest as of right now).

I play Project M and just got a new laptop with an actual graphics card (yay!) (Lenovo IdeaPad Y410p), so I should be able to pop Dolphin on there and play. :)

In fact, we tried to play with Streetwalrus and there was some annoying latency and desync. Both of us were seeing the other one commit suicide for no reason and even if that were not the case, latency would have killed gameplay.

So it can be fun but only if there is a very good connection between both PCs I guess.

Would distance between both person also matter? (For example, if you live 1000 Km apart)

Also, now that we have SSBB remade in SSBM style, why not Super Smash Bros Atari? There would be two players max, with two AI's and you could choose between Mario, E.T, Pac-Man, General Custer and the guy from Pitfall.
