I totally pwned the Nihilanth at the end of Half Life 1 on hard. What I did was immediately when I spawned I used the rocket launcher (with laser off) to take out all his healing crystals before it could even really start attacking me, then I used a bouncy pad and emptied my grenade launcher into it's face, then I hid behind a giant spike so it couldn't hit me with that goddamn teleporter thing and used all my .308 ammo on it (and killed whatever little baddies it spawned when they got in my view) and then used a few hits from the crossbow and it's head opened. Then I used the highest bouncy pad, charged my gauss cannon as I was running up, and BOOM HEADSHOT full blast into it's brains and it died instantly. Poor bastard didn't stand a chance against my m4d sk1llz. The G-Man said he was impressed too. ^^ When I first played hl1 on normal I thought the Nihilanth was really hard... this time I went in with a plan! >:]

Half life 1 has bad graphics? It's almost 10 years old! It was #1 when it came out. Anyways, in response to Ranman, they are only the best games ever created.
Half Life 1 was freaking amazing, then everyone was worried Half Life 2 wasn't going to live up to the expectations, but it ended up being ridiculously awesome as well. I think Half Life 2 still holds the record for sheer amount of gaming awards. If you consider yourself a gamer at all you must play half life 2! O_O

Only thing that bugged me about it was certain parts felt repetative and not hard enough...hope the episodes 1 and 2 will fix that.

I thought half life 2 was a lot easier than the first game on the hard difficulty. I didn't find any sections I found repetitive though. Episode 1 is alright I guess, it was really really short though and the level where 50 bajillion zombies come from all directions and it's pitch black and your flashlight has the most weaksauce battery on the planet kind of sucks. Episode 2 is supposed to be a lot longer and lots of big open outdoor exploration so it looks really cool.

Episode 1 is fun. Episode 2 looks AWESOME, but I fell asleep waiting to play it last night so I have to wait until Im home.
Also, yea, the nihiianth is the last boss at the end of HL1, it was(is?) what is in my avatar.

Anyways, in response to Ranman, they are only the best games ever created.
For FPS, I think Delta Force 1 & 2 are the best. Some of the night campaigns can actually startle the poo-poo out of you. :gah:
However, Delta Force went down hill beginning with number 3.
And now DF: Blackhawk Down (#5) is the standard run-of-the-mill FPS which forces you down a specified path and unable to deviate from (which I hate in today's games).
I will have to try Half Life 1 & 2 at some point.

Delta force is largly multiplayer though, (it has a huge campaign, but I think multiplayer is the main part) Half Life 2 is a single player FPS.
That would kind of make a difference. The main multiplayer parts would be counter strike: source, team fortress 2 (woo!), and day of defeat: source. Oh also hl2: deathmatch I guess.
Btw, episode 2 was amazing! O_O
They improved on AI, made it multicore ready, and made it possible for giant battles with a bajillion enemies and friendlies battling all at once, improved the physics engine so there are destructible buildings, bridges, and environment which makes for epic explosions by the Striders' cannons and even the bending and twisting of steel for cool bridge collapsing effects. They also improved on the lighting, adding soft shadows and letting your flashlight and other lights cast shadows on the models and bump-mapped textures in real time, and they even did a total makeover on some things, most notably the Vortigaunts and also other effects like the blood splatters, fire, and explosions are much more realistic looking. Storyline was OMGZ WHAT HAPPEN too.
I thought I was going to get another "meh, it's alright" game like episode 1. Boy was I wrong, the only issue I have with episode 2 is cliffhanger ending of sadness and doom
(gah! I can't say teh spoilers!!) and it was, again, too short. That and I thought I would get to fly a helicopter but it ended right before you get in! Much anger!
Oh, and Portal is friggin' awesome too of course!
I haven't beaten that yet though.
