Yeah, I have no idea how rugby's scoring system works :P let alone how to actually play without getting kicked out.

It looks like a really cool Sonic remake. Anyone up for a calc version? :P

There was a Sonic in the works on United-TI but it died it seems. I wonder if it would be possible in Axe? My worry is mostly if the physics complexity would allow a calc version written in Axe to be fast enough...

Well, remember Jump, that one demo released for the axe contest? that seems like it would have similar physics, at least. I would hate to play sonic that slow though :P it's made to be fast paced.

Well if I remember Jump! correctly it's physics aren't that Sonic-y. However, in one of the early version of Axe Builder had a working ball demo thing with sonic physics. I don't know if it was supposed to be physics for the side scrollers or the 3D games though.

I think it was for side scrollers. I don't know what collision detection was implemented, though. Also it had some bugs, if I remember.

Ya, I mean it was one of the first version of Axe so image what Builder could come up with now ;) But ya, I think he said it might have had some bugs but I don't remember. It was just a "ball-in-a-box" demo so I think it was mostly for concept or something.

yeah it was just a fun concept, although making a fully fledged engine with a tilemapper would be quite an undertaking O.O Especially with slopes and loops and stuff.  I think is no wonder that Sonic really never got off the ground x.x

I think Calc84maniac had a really hard time implementing slopes in Project M.

Sonic actually got pretty far...I know because I worked on it. Me and digi have been busy with other stuff. I know I just dont have the time and he must be about the same because I havent seen a RW update in a while.

Sonic is clearly possible on the TI-83+SE, because the Game Gear/Master System used a Z80 at only 3.5 MHz. The weak point here is the graphics. I can't say if TI-83+ would be able to handle both the physics and graphics at the same time, but the extra processing power provided by the SE/84+ models could surely make up for the terrible display interface. Somebody from Sonic Retro actually suggested using a disassembly of Sonic for the Game Gear/Master System and port it to the calculator. The graphics would need to be completely rewritten, but the main game engine might work without too much modification.

It will be finished eventually. If not by me and digi, I know we will post the code if we cant get it done.

Edit:Hmm, I remember we did at least discuss disassembling the game gear version and might have had a copy. Ya mike, raiser and me redid most of the graphics.

Was there ever a demo released for it? I was looking over the "Progress..." thread over at UTI, skimmed would be more accurate, but couldn't find one (nor many pictures of the game or the game in action). Just a little curious because I remember seeing that when I first signed up there but didn't have the time to look over everything.

Nope. I remember back in 2003 there was a version coming along nicely, until an hurricane hit the place where the files were backed up. Afterward they tried reviving the project but it seemed to progress super slowly. And yeah I think I remember the talk about disassembling the Game Gear one.

There used to be a site at sonic.unitedti.org but it went down after the server move in 2009.

The difference between our version and theirs, was by far better graphics and we actually had a physics engine. We could release our physics engine I guess if you wanted to roll around some ramps and stuff. But really it was just us getting the engine done. I don't want to make it sound like this is ours and nobody should help because that isnt the case. It's just when you spend a lot of time on something you hate to just give it up to someone else.

The plan was to incorporate jim's tilemapper so really we are pretty close. You'll see an update when Digi is done with RW I'm sure. It kinda sucked that the sonic.unitedti.org site was not put back up, because it made it easier to see some of the progress and mockups we had made instead of searching through a large thread.
