In SC1 it wasn't as efficient, though, when going through cannons or high defense, because you could only select 12 units at once and put 12 per groups, meaning only about 120 zerglings could be moved at quick speed. On top of that in SC1 they often ran one after each others in queue, so it often took ages before they all get out of the base.
One thing that speed things up a lot in SC2 is how you can select like 400 units at once. IN SC1 you can only select 12. Good luck sending 400 zerglings on an enemy when they're in the middle of your base among larvas
