Starcraft II getting rid of region lock soon?
« on: November 13, 2012, 02:37:09 pm »
It seems that Blizzard is finally gonna remove the region lock from Starcraft II, so if you buy the North American copy of the game you will now be able to play with your European friends or vice-versa! :D

Before, if you wanted to play with your European friends, you were forced to buy a second copy of the game. On top of that, installing two copies of the game required messing around with the registry keys and stuff, because simply choosing a different folder for installation of the 2nd copy did not work (it told you there was already a copy installed).

Basically you'll be able to switch regions regardless of the copy you buy. I don't know if that's only for the expansion or all versions, though.

The only downside of this is that now the master league will be only Koreans in every region and your teamates won't necessarily speak english. <_<

Good to hear that. :D
But then, the connection speed can be destroyed if I want to play with somebody in Singapore or something O.O

Not necessarily. When I played Starcraft Brood War on Asia and Europe servers I did not get much hit in performance. I'm betting they got more servers since 2010 to improve those issues.

My main concern is the invasion of korean speaking players and maps. Remember how in Brood War, 90% of the games in the list were in gibberish language, even on US East. Maybe Blizzard will instate a rule that every map on NA servers must be in English, though. :P

Yes I know that and I was quite happy about it because I'm Korean. :P
Now let us observe those Korean gamers utterly destroy other regions' gamers. :D

Lol my issue is more the fact that everytime I'll play, there will always be one or two teamate in my team that don't know a single word of English (or French), and as a result, we won't be able to plan any strategy. I always had that happen on Brood War.

A new patch just came out and the menus were redesigned for the 2nd time since 2010. I noticed the following:

-Game loading speed seems faster (as in when players are loading, people don't seem to hang at 75% for 10 minutes as often). There seems to be a memory leak glitch, though, causing some games to slow down  more and more as they progress, even if almost no unit are left. Hopefully it's fixed soon.

However the important part is that apparently the region lock is going away soon and they're working on it. Hopefully we can play with more Omnimaga people now :P

Also groups/clans are now supported. I didn't create a clan, but an Omnimaga group instead, so if you find it in the search please join it :D
