Starcraft on iCCup - For those who can't use Battle.Net
« on: February 04, 2010, 05:34:15 pm »
Ok, many people who plays SC do not own a legit copy of it, but may still want to play online with people on the forums. Here's a solution: iCCup. iCCup is a third party online SC server. To be able to get on it, you must Google iCCup, go on their website (we do not provide direct link as it seemed to provide warez and linking to it is not allowed by my webhost), go to the Starcraft tab and check the instructions. Follow them and install the needed patch(es). Then you should have an additional server listed above the 4 battle net servers. iCCup requires Starcraft Broodwar Expansion Set. This should let you play SC online even if you have a pirated copy of SC Brood War.

I don't have time to keep looking for who here may be online, so it would be sweet if we had some arranged matches

Yeah that's why I started this subforum, also started because there seems to be a bunch of Starcraft players here now. On IRC it can be hard because even if you get highlighted you might miss my message if you leave and it can be hard to notice through logs.

Now about iCCup, one thing I need to figure out is how to fix the latency problem (causing me to not be able to join some people games). I got told to use Chaos Launcher, but it didn't fix my problem. I thought I may have setup something wrong but I asked someone (who happens to be Geekboy1011 friend) in the iCCup channel we were in and he started messing with me by refusing to awnser.

A lot of younger people don't know what is SC these days, because it's 12 years old and it's not findable in every store. Only some stores still carry some copies and it's not sold in all countries anymore. However, when younger people discovers it, they start liking it too unless they only play games for graphics

Well, Blizzard definitely deserves the credit.  They could have stuck with "Warcraft in Space", (for those of you who don't know, this is a reference to Starcraft originally built on the Warcraft II engine, to many negative reviews) but instead decided to build a reputation for quality games rather than making games simply to make a buck

The original two WC engines weren't too great. If anyone tried Warcraft II they probably noticed how sucky was the AI on complex maps. Still a good game but SC engine is a major improvement over it.

Now let's hope Starcraft 3 (or even 2?) won't be turned into a MMORPG <.<

Yeah, I think they are keeping starcraft away from heroes and stuff, since warcraft already has that.
I would rather not have any kind of heroes (except may be in single player campaign) that you can level up and stuff.
It's still widely played in Korea, and it almost became Korean national sport ^^
And, I will play, except that I'm finding myself without time more and more :(

I hope you don't lose all your free time x.x

It would be cool to do some sort of big game at one point, altough getting everyone online all at once may be hard.

In Quebec SC is still quite popular too. In fact, the two Quebecers that were active coding in the TI community in ASM were working on their respective Starcraft clones

Were... I wish it was Is.
Haha, I was thinking of making SC with xLib, and had most of the ideas figured out, except AI and the map and their storage... I sometimes really wish there really was SC clone. Well, that's why I'm looking forward to S.A.D., which is closest RTS game in calc in development right now :)

I would like to do so. Basically I could setup a game in melee mode, where we would play each others but we would have the same race and first I would teach you how to build stuff and the like

First i would have to get the latency issue fixed, though... I guess I can always host, though...
