The most interesting Starcraft campaign I've ever played
« on: January 13, 2010, 09:50:15 pm »
http://www.winnieinternet.com/games/starcraft/abwar.htm

This campaign is not an official Blizzard campaign, but I decided to give it a shot.  It was a great campaign for the most part (I definitely recommend playing it if you're a die-hard Starcraft fan), but even the slightest knowledge on Starcraft II shows that this is not what really happened after the Brood War.

Interesting, I should give this a shot one day but first I really need to attempt finishing the original campaing XD

Btw do you play Multiplayer Battle.Net? I don't really remember if I asked. I still play from time to time. I know Jsj795 and Cooliojazz sometimes do, too, and Geekboy1011, but Geekboy1011 can't get on battle.net due to pirate key.

I don't because most players are experts and I also have a pirate key; of course, I played the campaign with cheat codes because I don't have time to do elsewise.  As it is, I decided to try the very last mission of brood war without cheats, and it took about 7 or 8 attempts

Aaah ok, because I personally don't mind just playing games vs computers, it can still be fun when my team isn't that great. Not that I'm really that good either.

As for pirate key, sometimes, you might be lucky and it may work. The best case scenario is that you won't be able to use any chatroom nor send private messages to people. You will only be able to receive messages and join games. When I play with jsj795, I invite him to a private game, telling him the name/password (usually "omni") then he can join. He can chat in game lobby and inside the game, just not outside. In the worst case scenario, you will just not be able to connect to Battle.Net at all

Of course there could have been Hamachi as option, to play in LAN mode over a virtual network, but LAN was not designed to play over such distances. Back in 2008 I played against Arglactable once and despite us having a pretty solid internet connection, the game ran at 10x slower speed because I lived too far away.

Another option is Iccup. You need to install an hack to add this network to the list, but I don't remember if we're allowed to play private games on this server of if it's just against pros...

EDIT: apparently they don't have rules regarding non-tournament games and games played for fun:

http://www.iccup.com/starcraft/sc_start.html

However, maybe I could be wrong.

Some days ago I wondered of the Starcraft users' Campaigns...
I haven't finished the Brood War Campaign but I wanted to know about the history... It continues on Starcraft 2, well..

I don't need more than 2 tries to finish some missions on campaigns... Most I do in 1 try.

I am not a bad player when I get hang of the game, sometimes even 'good'. But I never play enough one game to reach the mastery of it...

I really like map making for good games. The best map making community I know is Stronghold Heaven. It has excellent quality maps! And they push the game engine and tricks to the limits. Even with a somewhat stupid and orcish AI they make some challenging and fun maps...

The first time I tried the Terran Campaing I failed the last mission because I had a poor building strategy. If I remember I tried to tech up too early and only kept building the same kind of unit. I was not prepared to every kind of attack.

I knew the whole history of Starcraft, from the beginning to end (I had a strategy guide book with the storyline and everything) but I lost the book, and I forgot most part of it... :P
And for me, I usually didn't play the campaign. I went for playing melee in as many different maps as I can find.

Spoiler For funny life mathematics:
1. ROMANCE MATHEMATICS
Smart man + smart woman = romance
Smart man + dumb woman = affair
Dumb man + smart woman = marriage
Dumb man + dumb woman = pregnancy
2. OFFICE ARITHMETIC
Smart boss + smart employee = profit
Smart boss + dumb employee = production
Dumb boss + smart employee = promotion
Dumb boss + dumb employee = overtime
3. SHOPPING MATH
A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs.
A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn't need.
4. GENERAL EQUATIONS & STATISTICS
A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband.
A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.
A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend.
A successful woman is one who can find such a man.
5. HAPPINESS
To be happy with a man, you must understand him a lot and love him a little.
To be happy with a woman, you must love her a lot and not try to understand her at all.
6. LONGEVITY
Married men live longer than single men do, but married men are a lot more willing to die.
7. PROPENSITY TO CHANGE
A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't.
A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change, and she does.
8. DISCUSSION TECHNIQUE
A woman has the last word in any argument.
Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

Girls = Time * Money (Girls are a combination of time and money)
Time = Money (Time is money)
Girls = Money squared (So, girls are money squared)
Money = sqrt(Evil) (Money is also the root of all evil)
Girls = sqrt(Evil) squared (So, girls are the root of all evil squared)
Girls = Evil (Thus, girls are evil)
*Girls=Evil credit goes to Compynerd255*

I myself am more a fan of multiplayer when it comes to first-person shooters and strategy games, for some reasons. I think it's because of the whole freedom it procures.

If it is a decent AI, and I play outnumbered has its kind of fun.

Also, what is melee multiplayer game mode? I don't get some of them.

In multiplayer, the modes I usually play is 3v3 or 4v4 (top vs bottom team), melee (when teams are based on your map position, requiring everyone to tell their position at the game start then manually ally with everyone of the same position) and free for all. Free for all is no team allowed. Most people play Top vs bottom.

LAN by Hamachi and guess why...

But I own some good other RTS. (although I crack to play with friends)
Rise of Nations, is the best I own.

Aaah ok, cracked key I guess :P

I really wonder if we can actually play games for fun on ICCup, tho, or if they really have to be tournament/ladder games. ICCup doesn't require a valid key because it's not owned by Blizzard. You need to install a patch, tho.

And yeah Hamachi would be no luck for me since it would be too slow :(

I would do it if they allowed fun games rather than just tournaments
