hahaha lol let's see what people think. Oh Pokemon are Family to me.
-
Wrong forum, moved :)
My opinion's here:
Especially when you realize the Pokémon is basically dogfighting. People carry animals around in tiny cages (Pokéballs), call them out at will to pit them against each other, and collect money for winning.

I think Ash's Pikachu understood this by hating being in a Pokéball.

The only real pokemon I actually play is probably Blue Version, and by definition my pokemon look like I beat them with an ugly stick; hard to keep close what looks like a monster that wants to kill you. I also don't have much affection for data allocations in 64 byte denominations stored on my cartridge, so I just chose "FOOD!!!"
-
I chose FOOD!!! too.
-
for me, pokemon are little, 2d chunks of nostalgia

Ya I guess Pokemonz are my partner. I wish Pokemon games would let you have your Pokemon as friends or partners or family (or FOOD O.o) instead of just creatures that battle.
-

Agreed, but I'm not sure that it's exactly 64 bytes.
-
Well, in Generation I, the base stats data is 28 bytes, the data for a Pokemon not in the PC is 44 bytes, and the limit on names should be 10 letters, so I'm estimating 92-94, depending on whether or not they pad the nickname and OT name with a terminator.
I do love Bulbapedia.

Wheeeee!
I might see if I can get a GS2 one.
-
@spyro
oh! i had the pocket pikachu one and the gs2 also! the gs2 was japanese for some reason... i got it from a friend. The first i found on the ground. That was many many years ago. I lost it. The GS2 i sold for $100 to a friend

yeah same thing. They need to make a second path where u could choose another career such as breeder, coordinator, etc.
Pokemon Ranger i suppose is something like that.
-
I find Pokemon to be my friends.
I don't catch tons and neglect them, but I choose to train the ones I do catch really well, and I often do things to increase their happiness, and don't often give them bitter medicines. Thus, they like me in return.
-
I wonder if there's any Pikachu GS2 that are in English...
I might try to find/buy one...

i dont think there are. nintendo of america was too stupid to release it in US bc they thot it was same as Pocket Pikachu 1. Same thing with Green Version, they though Red Blue and Green were all the same. They also didn't release the PCC bc they didnt know that it was for worldwide trade and battle, they thought it was for phone calls and not safe for use. Nintendo of America is just plain stupid. I hate the president of NoA. Burn and impeach him. In that order.

Pocket monsters are obviously slaves. I mean, look at the name. You don't put pets in your Pocket :P
-
but what are they TO YOU? What do you treat them as?

pokemon can't be your friends they're just chunks of data in a widely marketed childrens game.
I can understand having fun but i don't think you should take it so seriously

dude, u are an anti nerd. Ever hear of IMAGINATION??????????
geez or ROLEPLAY??????????
u r such a hater....... >:(

So you guys think you had a tough childhood? Hell no, you've got nothing on mine. My mom pretty much kicked me out of the house before I turned 13, and I never met my dad. My only friend until I was 10 was this jerk next door who was always beating the crap out of me and telling me how worthless I was. It isn't even as if I had a choice, the whole town had about 9 people living in it - seriously. My entire youth was moving around from place to place trying to get along with people that didn't even want me.
You think that's the worst part? My only friend was this Asian guy who was in his thirties or something, who only kept me around because he thought it would get him chicks. The only perk was that I got to hang around with this cute ginger chick, but that was about it. I wasn't interested, though, and she would always be punching me in the arm as if she thought it was flirty.
But the complete bane of my existence was this adult couple I could NOT seem to avoid. You know those types of couples that are completely sickening, like they wear matching outfits and finish each other's sentences? Yeah, they were total creepers, and they had a cat, which was at least twice as annoying as they were, I swear this thing would never shut the hell up.
Like I said, I ended up moving around from town to town getting into fights with other kids my age, even adults from time to time.
The only thing that kept me going was my dream to become a Pokemon master.

well we kinda are. sorta roleplaying and how do u treat them in the game

Enu_N, please do not call people name (such as accusing samebull of being a hater, anti-nerd) nor yell at others. I rated down your posts above and if it continues we will have to ban. Let's not be rude to each others, there's no reason to be rude to each others just because of a different opinion, and there are ways to say your opinion without attacking others'.
-
but what are they TO YOU? What do you treat them as?
The only Pokemon I've played since I was 8 was Pokemon Red...
I would beat the game in a couple of hours by training one pokemon (Butterfree), then getting the Legendary birds. You seriously don't need anything else to beat the Elite Four.
-
I know, its amazing.
Agreed :)

Meh...Can I remove my vote? There's no option up there that fits what I think...

he said i was to emotionally involved in the games, and i was offended, even though that was true... i didn't mean to sound mean, just very sarcastic. My apologies. m-.-m

I would like a "Data in my cartridge" option, personally. Also, reminder again, please don't double post; just edit in new stuff to your old post. Unless, of course, your old post was unanswered for 6 hours or more, then you can get away with it.

I voted food because I DISLIKE how they dragged out the Pokemon thing.
I still play Pokemon cards with my foster brother, and occasionally rewatch the first couple of seasons, but i feel they over did it.
Original Pokemon, friend. New ones, food.
oh and...

If you ask me pokemon is kind of...just...bleh. Best word to describe it :P After something like 20 years it just gets kind of old imo
I can see how some people like that sort of thing but myself--I think I'll just pass.

thats bc pokemon usa bought out the pokemon tv series from 4kids after johto (a bit into hoenn) then ruined it

that explains it :p
thanks.

I'd have to agree, the TV series turned it into something bad. It's most likely what turned it into the "for little kids" vibe. :(
Actually I'd have to say they do that with nearly all anime, (Anyone read the Naruto mange then watch the anime, which is more graphic awesome) :P
[/rant]
Umm, back to the actual topic, Pokemon are basically family to me. I like to carry only the same six with me and train them. IRL I have some very deep memories of Pokemon, one of my first memories was getting a pack of Pokemon cards for Christmas in 1996 and getting a holographic Lapras. XD
Also Pokemon are little money making machines :P [/joking]

FOOD!!!
The newest Pokemon game I played that I actually enjoyed was Emerald, I stuck with it enough to get a full party of lvl100 Pokemon, and complete the Hoenn Pokedex. However, I think the newer games have lost the original vision of Pokemon, and now there are way too many kinds of them. That, along with the TV shows and "junior novels" making it a "little kid" thing, and the fact that they have been licensed and are in things like happy meals is an insult to the original spirit of Pokemon. Pokemon used to be fun, and the older games still are, but I think this is a tired franchise now. I still go back and play the older games (hurrah for gbc4nspire and visual boy advance!), but apart from playing Pearl, or Platinum, (I don't remember which), for a little bit, and getting bored, I have never touched a game past the third generation. Red and Blue was an original idea that caught on, Gold, Silver, and Crystal improved on it, Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald was a fresh new spin on it without the past baggage of previous regions, and Fire Red and Leaf Green paid respect to what started it all, but after that, it only goes downhill. :(
-
That's exactly what inspired my Daemons project. I want to basically recreate Pokemon and bring in originality again.
/me thinks he really needs to get working on that
Damn ADD. >:[
-
I guess that's one way to go but wouldn't Bulbasaur simply be easier to speed-run? Butterfree has awful stats, bad typing, and absolutely no damaging bug type moves to account for the psychic type.
Venasaur's got powerful special attacks and stats while getting amazing type matchups in the first half of the game. By the time you reach the birds or so Venasaur would have grinded so much that he can outrun them and still has the advantages of sleep powder making up for type disadvantage against flying.
still I guess it doesn't really I guess you can use Butterfree because it wooks pwetty

That's because Pokemon's target audience is children, and you simply like the older games because of nostalgia. I feel the same way, but Pokemon will never be marketed to us again, ever. :(

Enu_N, I am not trying to troll or be mean, but it seems like you're taking Pokemon too far. They don't have feelings, because they are just pictures printed on a card, a molded and painted chunk of plastic, or data allocations on a card/disk/cartridge, not an animal with feelings. Yes, the games are very fun (I still play Pokemon Colosseum), but it's just a game.
Samebull, I agree with you,
pokemon can't be your friends they're just chunks of data in a widely marketed childrens game.
I can understand having fun but i don't think you should take it so seriously
Enu_N, I think I can answer your question:
but what are they TO YOU? What do you treat them as?
I treat them as nonexistent creatures in a video game.
-
Pokemon are my partners and my friends. We have endured many long journeys together, difficult battles, and experienced many great things. Hopefully the future only holds more wonderful experiences for my pokemon and I. :)

oh man Pokemon Colosseum. I loved playing the third gen games, Colosseum, Emerald, FireRed, and XD. That was the last time I really had fun playing Pokemon. Now I've outgrown it and it's just eh, but damn those were fond memories.

Pokemon Colosseum is fun :P. I like playing it on our 46" HDTV and my awesomesomeofthebestqualityspeakerseverthatarehigherqualitythantheHDTVbuiltinspeakers (new adjective) speakers.
-
yeah, 3rd Gen is where I stopped. I still play it, but I just don't like the newer versions, the pokemons don't look like things that'd you'd never see IRL. A lot of the new ones are just animals that have been "cartoon-ized". I preferred the old, fantasy type pokemon where most of the pokemon have a significant difference with every real life animal.

If Pokemon are food, aet this one:

Or the Insect-Pokemons.
Or the slimy ones... ;D

I would have something to laugh, too...

I think you're being a little unfair to him. I can understand where he's coming from, personally, if Singularity was more popular, I'd be all over making Singularity references. Also, a lot of people like to make emotional ties with their games, I know of a time in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion where I truly regretted having to carry out a mission for the Dark Brotherhood. If you see characters and entities in game as only data on a disc or cartridge then you've sort've missed the point of that character or entity imho.
Also, I don't think he's taking it too far. He's more of, "playing the part". Role-playing as he mentioned earlier. (Taking it too far was if he really tried to seriously capture an animal or something with a small red and white ball) :P

You're an adult, and you've Never watched Pokemon. You've one or two little children, who love Pokemon.
AM I RIGHT? ;D
EDIT of the EDIT:
I know this from my parents (just chunks of data in a widely marketed childrens game) :P
-
"What's a Pokemon?"
I have only played pokemon for 10 minutes of my life. That's pretty much all I have to say...
-
I have played it in the past, and I still use my poke-walker from time to time, but other than that I really have no attachment to them. I really only have an attachment to my YGO cards.. mainly because I have played YGO since I was 6 (I think it was 4 actually).... I played pokemon when I was 10. Either way, pokemon is just a fun game to me, nothing other than that.
-
I find the Generations I-III, as well as Generation V, to be fun, but I didn't enjoy Generation IV that much.
What really makes me love Pokemon is the manga. Pokemon Adventures is the best part of Pokemon in my opinion.

I'm a poke hacker :P. 'M, .45, pkmnF2/?, you name it I have >60 glitch pokemon in Blue version. Oh and a level 100 clefable that kicks ass :3. Man, they are just data chunks, but they're fun data chunks, especially when you expose them to the radiation of the Gamboyz80's radiation and form them into mutants. Or, just mess with the game and some horribly coded seams and unveil some glitchemon..
-
Oh Missingno and the >9000ofwhateveryourseventhitemwas glitch ;D
Ahh memories :P
Apparently the number increased if you went inside the Pokemon center before viewing the item, and what do ya know, it worked. (I think, the symbol certainly was different)

From what I remember, you get 127 items if you encounter Missingno and 255 items if you catch it when you encounter it.
-
I only heard that if you caught it, weird glitches will cripple your game. Either your game will become corrupt, or things like all your Pokemon becoming Rattata's. :P

I don't think it's going to corrupt that much... Usually, it's just the graphics and Hall of Fame.
-
It really depends. I actually have had my Red game reset on me when I had a Missing No. and was fooling around. I don't remember what I was doing, but I think I might have tried to use rare candy on it. Maybe I stored it in the PC... . At any rate, my game froze and when I turned it back on my save file had been corrupted. I had to start over. It is also noteworthy that there are different variants of the Missing No. data depending on what you named your character.
-
Today, it's the biggest part of my past...
