Sonic the Hedgehog? He's cool.
100% Agreed. Good one.

Samus Aran. Hands down.

Samus has always been an interesting and somewhat mysterious character and is the very first true female protagonist (Ms Pacman does *not* count) in video game history.

Samus is my favorite because she is pretty much one of the few 3-D female characters in video games to not be overly sexualized (although Zero Suit and Other M Samus are kinda... iffy). I mean, look at Lara Croft, Tifa and other FF gals, and the gals in Soul Calibur. They're mostly walking fan-service and I really don't care for a game that emphasizes those.... "assets"... so blatantly. If I want to stare at voluptuous women, that's what the internet is for. GTFO my vidjamagames >:(
Good choice. My 1st for female hero. (I was going to write heroin for some reason lol)

Now my choice is...
Zero, the legendary Reploid from Mega Man Zero series.

Zero has amazing reflexes and is hell fast killing with his Z-Saber. (no Jedi could beat him) No boss is match for him. (even against his original body "slightly over powered") He is the lone hero that saves everyone on the scenario and commonly goes or is in the wrong places. He questions himself why he fights for but is a cold killer. He doesn't like too much talk and must love bosses that skip speech. Although he questions the reasons to fight, he sacrificed himself for humankind more than once.

Note: I don't like too much the rest of the Mega Man games. Just happens to get obsessed with him. I discovered some crazy guys for Mega Man... :P

"The Master," from ActRaiser 2. He's actually supposed to be "God," but that was kind of lost in the English translation.

Why? I think the game is a masterpiece. It's perfect in every way. I'm not even sure where to begin...

First off all, I like the game's approach to the concept of divinity. You play the role of a god, but he functions like any mortal man. He's not omnipotent in any way. He actually has to manifest himself as a physical avatar in order to fight evil creatures. While in this form, he can be harmed, and even killed. To me, this implies our "Master" has possibly gained this title through many tedious battles with evil, as opposed to being innately divine. The fact that he can survive all of these battles in lieu of his own mortality makes him a sort of stoical strongman worthy of being considered a god.

Secondly, I love the difficulty. The game is extremely rigid and unforgiving. Every achievement means something, because you have to go through some serious effort to progress. This also goes hand-in-hand with how our "Master" must have risen to divinity in the first place. Surely, this one-man army is extremely able-bodied to have survived so many battles with such unrelenting evils.

Third, I like the simplicity of the gameplay. It's really straightforward, and you only have a few moves at your disposal. The challenge before you is memorizing enemy patterns, and finding strategies that will allow you to survive every few steps you take through any given battlefield.

Fourth, I like the fact that the game uses a password system. All the data really keeps track of is which levels you've cleared, and which difficulty mode you're on. This gives you the freedom of coming back to the game at any time to retry levels over and over again, without having to hoard a ton of lives or continues; and you will be retrying some levels many times.

Fifth, I really like the overall design: Graphics, music, special effects... It's all one very nice, neat package.

Strangely, I didn't like the first ActRaiser game. I just didn't care much for the "SimCity" parts. I think it's cool that ActRaiser 2 just dropped all of that and threw you straight into a bunch of action scenes.

I like the concept of "The Master". It is a curious one.

Only mortal characters should be considered as heroes.
How can you be a hero if you are not sacrificing yourself for others?

ActRaiser 2? I guess it's sort of like an action RPG. You never increase your base statistics, or anything like that, though. You do, however, have a selection of "spells" at your disposal.

Unlike the first ActRaiser game, you don't have any of the simulation / city-building elements - this is just straightforward action sequences. That kind of robs the game of any RPG value, but I still like it.

It should be noted that there are some problems with emulation. The game has a mode-7 zooming effect that tends to break a lot of emulators. I know it works on SNESgt, and I believe it may also work on snes9x. I'm fairly sure it doesn't work on the latest version of zSNES.

If it was for a Nintendo console, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a mistake... They censor everything related to religion.
