I bet that most of you have heard about it already, but in case you didn't, it seems that Microsoft has finally decided to listen to customers after all: No more 24/7 connectivity and used games are now playable! Of course I personally will only buy the console if there are more good game choices on it than the PS4 and if Sony don't decide to add restrictions or something, because there is still the fact that the Xbox One is still $100 higher than the PS4 and $200 higher than the Wii U. (Plus I plan to get the Wii U first anyway)

On the other hand, like old consoles, we'll now need to put the game disc in the console to play, but I guess it's not a big issue unless you have a massive game collection at home and that it's hard to find the game you want.

I'm so glad they decided NOT to F*** up their market. Xbox, you have won some respect back, :).
-
What, i thought this nonsence was 100% sure ^^
-
Their last comments in response to the backlash saying that those who don't want to stay connected 24/7 can just suck it and stick with the 360 instead caused even more controversy than their initial decision itself, and they probably realized that their market share was in danger of being obliterated by the PS4 and Wii U next Winter, so they finally changed their mind.
I bet that they'll try again in 7-8 years when the successor of the Xbox One gets announced, though.
-
They seriousley said that? O.O
How much info are they trying to get of us?
(Are they collecting data for PRISM, lol :P)
-
They didn't literally say that, but they did say to just stick with the 360 if we're not fine with their new policy and that like 100 new 360 games have been announced for after the Xbox One comes out anyway. But the way it was said in response to customer backlash pretty much meant that if we didn't like their policies then to just suck it.
And yeah the always online policy seemed kinda creepy. By the way I wonder if it's true that the webcam always remain on on the console? That could be kinda scary, privacy-wise.
-
Yeah, i heard it was built-in or needs to be plugged in to be on or something like that.....
wasn't it also supposed to be that they do face-recognision so that only the game owner can play the game?
EDIT: Also sonys response:
-
microsoft have always had the problem of trying to force people into using things the way *they* want it. Its about time they actually listened for once. That said, nothing is really appealing to me about any new console ... its basically same old games (will there be another 5 halo's this generation?).
Also lol @ that sony video :).
-
Personally I am fine with sticking with the current gen, but it will be hard to resist the temptation of playing the new Mario games along with NSMBWiiU for much longer. :P
I also bet that friends will insist so I get the new Halo and Xbox franchises and play with them online, although I doubt they would do it as much as a few years ago.

Awesome vid Sorunome !

I heard that sony has been using microsofts unpopularity all the time to advertise for the ps4

I guess I can't say for sure, but 343 said they PLANNED on making 3 more Halo's including 4, so tops we got halo 6? Anyway, they are going to need to change it up a little, because with this many Halo's it is eventually going to turn out like CoD, and just suck (after WaW).

Yeah, I saw that vid a while back, XD. The best part of it though is that they don't have to do anything special, just sharing the game got them that much more!
Actually now that we are kind of talking about the games that are coming, might I mention that Destiny, Bungie's latest game is looking great.
-
To be honest, I think the amount of Halo games isn't as bad as CoD. There is a CoD game coming out every year and often it feels like the same. That said, if the Xbox One is $499.99 I don't see why I would buy a new Halo game immediately if Halo Reach and 4 for the 360 still do the job well.
However, if they ever release a remake of Halo 2, I'm most likely gonna get it, because I loved that game. It's a shame that Xbox Live for the original console (before the 360) was discontinued. Of course we can play on third-party servers now, but there aren't as many people.
-
Well, I think all the bad press Microsoft got in regards to their initial decisions about the new console (always on, no game sharing etc) will still negatively impact their sales. I myself was already unsure about the new system, and when I heard about all these things i said "screw em". I still feel this way, and I already thought having to pay for X-Box live was the most retarded thing I'd ever heard of. Also, if the introductory price for the X-Box 1 is higher than the PS4 ($399) or WiiU($349), that's going to hurt them a lot as well. I'm going to get a Wii U eventually and I might actually get a PS4. No interest in Microsoft's new system at all.
-
It is possible that some people who don't follow news much might have seen the news about the used games lockdown, but missed the other. It is obvious that some people won't get the console because of that, or they'll get it much later after its price dropped, meaning less revenues.
The problem, though, is that in 8 years or so, maybe they'll try to push their DRM crap on us again, but other companies will see extra revenues opportunities in that kind of restrictions then do the same with their consoles. What will then happen is either people will stop minding due to it being the standard, or there will be another video game crash.
Another thing is that before the 360, there was an original Xbox that some people referred to as the Xbox 1 or Xbox v1. The name of their new console might confuse people during discussions about old school Xbox games.
Also the Wii U has a $299.99 model.
-
Yea, but I think the $299 model is being discontinued.
-
Wow that sucks. I guess they just want to do everything so that people won't get it under $349.99 for as long as possible, or to get people to buy it while it lasts, then drop the price of the bigger model right afterward. :P
-
Well... so far it seems like there are more Xbox One games that interests me than PS4 ones. I tend to be more of a Forza 3+ guy than Gran Turismo, although I liked the old GT games a lot, and although Halo is slow-paced compared to other first-person shooters, I find that more suitable for my gameplay preferences and skills, and I have some friends that play the series a lot. I don't do campaings in FPSes so that won't matter very much to me.
There still remains the issue about the console costing $499.99 vs $399.99, though. Even at $399.99 I would not even be able to afford it right now, so I'll wait until it's like $299.99 maybe, unless I get a lot of money in the near future.
Also, although the DRM crap was solved a long while ago, I am still not 100% confident that most new consoles will last more than 2 years without breaking. I had too many bad experiences with Xbox 360 console disc players stopping working, not detecting wireless gamepads, the pause menu popping up randomly every now and then for no reason and dreaded RRoD's, and the PS3 used to have problems too. I also heard that some people had troubles with their PS4's, so I can only assume that early Xbox Ones will be at risk too. That's the word we live in, today.
Also I tend to not trust extended warranties, because what if the store goes bankrupt or closes down before it expired? Several Best Buy stores, for instance, suddenly closed with no warning last year in Sherbrooke and Montreal area.
-
I wouldn't consider getting the Xbox. First, its policies are 'subject to change' so after players purchase it they can still revert back to only allowing new games to run. The EULA now disallows class action lawsuits so if it rrods like the 360, your screwed if your warranty is expired. Don't think that Microsoft is your friend or that they deserve any kind of respect, believe me, they are not out for your best interest! They could care less about you, they are trying to take control of the market and shift it to their best interest. That can only happen though if Sony plays into it, which they are not. When Microsoft seen the PS4 preorders dominating, they dropped the DRM, but it would be so unfortunate for the purchasers if they picked it back up. The funny thing is, MS has to pay Sony for the BluRay! The Xbox was amazing, but they still managed to fuck it up. Kinda like going from XP to Vista....
They didn't literally say that, but they did say to just stick with the 360 if we're not fine with their new policy and that like 100 new 360 games have been announced for after the Xbox One comes out anyway. ^ True story. Think about it, in short they told their own customers to go fuck themselves!

Or from 7 to 8. Why fix something that isn't nearly as broken as its predecessors?
With consoles becoming more similar to PC's it's only a matter of time before there is no price difference, no difference in ease of use, no difference in size. The only thing with consoles that sets them apart is the controller.
The handheld market still has potential, but I feel like this might be one of the last console generations.
-
And the games as well, its all about the games!
-
This is why I will never get the console until it drops down in price. I'll never pay $500 for such console, knowing that in 4 years I might have to replace it or that my favorite game genres will suddenly desert it.
What I liked about the Xbox 360 was the abundance of RPGs from 2008 to 2010. However, after 2010 almost every RPG moved on to the PS3 and the only few that still came out on the 360 were western-style RPGs that are so dark that they're depressing to play. On the other hand, it took the PS2 and PS3 about three years respectively until JRPGs start invading them. I would say it's kinda a gamble in terms of games, which further strenghtens my decision to wait for a while before buying the console.
But yeah, to be honest, it seems that this gen of console has nothing really special to offer compared to previous gens. Plus almost every launch title is just yet another CoD/Assassin's Creed game that will be replaced by a new one adding nothing new next year and so on.
Not that I play my new consoles as much as old ones anyway (except maybe the Wii U).
-
I used to play my Xbox and my Xbox 360, but they were really overpriced when I got them. For the price of both of them I could have gotten a computer better than the one I have now. (and this one is overkill)
It doesn't matter how much Xbox and PS will have exclusive titles, because I know I can find everything else on steam.
(Except for Destiny, So I'm keeping my 360)
