Well I finally got a Sega Master System, along with 2 games for it (one for free that sucks, but also Space Harrier
), a dozen of Atari 2600 games (including Battlezone and another 3D tank game). I bought an extra copy of Solaris, which, this time, is NTSC.
Aside from Battlezone (which was almost new except the top of the box) and Solaris, around 10 other Atari games were $10, but then the guy decided to give me a bunch of others that I didn't have but didn't want for free (including E.T).
When I have money again that is allocated to retro gaming purchases, I will probably come back there since there's a crapload of retro stuff in the store's basement (hoping the boss is there so I can access the extra storage rooms where extra games lie). The old consoles are expensive, though
(especially the boxed ones). There must be plenty of Woolco and Consumers Distributing receipts in game boxes there.
Ah yeah and I got Breath of Fire II at Play N Trade, which was ridiculously expensive, but not as bad as last Summer before they bought the bankrupt Dimension chain. Last summer at Dimension it was $89.99 like back in the '90s in Canada, but now it was $69.99, which isn't too bad considering the cartridge alone seems to go for $56.49 on Ebay.ca (although JJGames estimates it at $45) and the instruction manual $20.54.

Ooh nice Sonic Adventure DX. I myself have Sonic Adventure 2 for the Dreamcast (only the CD) and it's kinda fun.
As of today after work, I got Paper Mario for the Nintendo 64. It was roughly the same price as online ($39.99) even though it was like new (although there was no box/manual), because the game was brought to the store in terrible condition (it wouldn't start anymore) so they didn't give much money back for it. The store refurbished/cleaned the game before putting it back on sale.
Nice game by the way ^^

And now Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts!
But how the hell do you even beat the first 1/3 of the first stage in easy mode with 9 lives? Even Legand of Zelda: Sord of Atari is easier!

Dude, I
LOVE
the Ghosts 'n Goblins series. I have the Super NES one somewhere... I haven't played it in ages, but I only ever got to the end of the second stage. I need to give it a crack again. Be warned, that game is ridiculously difficult, and has accounted for many controllers through TVs in the past.

Wow! And those TV's were made out of very sturdy glass as opposed to the weak plastic lcd tv's today. Imagine how angry you had to get in order to throw a snes controller trough your CRT. I have gargoyles quest for the gameboy (which is a spinoff of the franchise starring the red demon as the main protagonist) and it's hard as nails. You have to remember the levels and attack patterns. You will inevitably die the first couple of times and progress slowly trough the levels. Enemy placement is sometimes incredibly cheap and on the original gameboy they are very hard to dodge too.

Yeah Gargoyle Quest is hard as well. I have the 3rd one for the SNES (which is actually called Demon's Crest) and it's challenging, although not as much as the NES game.

There's one of those gargoyle games that Is rpgish if I remember correctly. I think it might've been on the NES. I also took a trip down to a store today that had some retro games and systems. They also had books, dvds, music and some MTG stuff. For games, they had Atari 2600 and 5200 games, NES games, Gameboy, Genesis games, Gamegear, SNES games, and some newer systems too. Prices seemed ok, but their selection sucked. I wasn't really impressed by the store as a whole either. The one girl working the front couldn't even be assed to say "hello" or anything at all to me for that matter, even though it was my first time visiting the store. Such a shame. I had high hopes for the place.

The RPG-ish one was Demon's Crest I think (SNES). There was a world map where it was possible to revisit past stages and houses, and Stage 2 had a village at the beginning where you could buy items and spells. You also got hearts containers like in Zelda and permanent power ups you could equip.
The NES one has somewhat of an RPG feel too with the village since it's top-down view, but I think you have lives.
And yeah in many cases used game stores that sells retro stuff only sells sports games and crappy SNES games. It really have to be a store that specialize itself in retro gaming to have better stuff, but then you end up with a store that follows the online market regarding game prices, so don't count on getting a cheap copy of Earthbound or something.

Newest purchases in the last 2 weeks (I might have forgotten some):
Sega Genesis
Shining Force II
-Awesome game so far, although to be honest I'm not too fond of tactic RPG battles. If it had standard or action battles I would probably like it more.
El Viento
-Nice arcade platform game, but if you ever decide to buy the game based on "HP" and "EXP" in the screenshots, don't expect it to be an RPG. I guess it tries to pass itself off as one, in order to attract RPG fans, but in face EXP is useless in-game and is simply your score. It's a very entertaining game, though. It's the first of a trilogy, but apparently the next two games suck.
Ecco the Dolphin
-Somewhat interesting kind of game. You are a doplhin and navigate through puzzles underwater and have to solve some riddles sometimes. It's kinda fun, although quite hard. Graphics are really great (reminded me of Donkey Kong Country)
NES
Dr. Mario
-Some sort of Tetris-like game which can be kinda fun. I got it since it was only $5.99 though
Super Mario Bros 2
Super Mario Bros 3
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game
Super Game Boy adapter
SNES
The Lion King
-Platform game that is a little hard, but fun. Graphics are nice as well.
Toy Story
-IMHO it has even better graphics than Donkey Kong Country series, because the textures and stuff is as detailed, and not only the floor is mode 7, but the background, which uses parralax scrolling, was made in a way so that the objects in the tilemap looks 3D. I think some of the decor elements are even part of the Mode 7 floor at times, so that they look even more 3D. It makes the game looks really advanced for a SNES game. It is a bit confusing and too hard, though.
Terranigma (reproduction)
-This one is an English NTSC reproduction cartridge (and box) since the original game never came out in North America. The cartridge and box design looks identical to other NTSC games, but the Nintendo official seal now says "Unnoficial Nintendo Reproduction" in order to distinguish it from counterfeit games, the screws are made of plastic and larger and the back-label which explains how to take care of it was replaced with an unnoficial one. It isn't perfect but it really looks great in my collection and I can finally play the game on a real NTSC console.
If I ever get compatible screws, my plan is to take one cheap SNES game I own (such as Space Ace, Vortex or Wing Commander), then replace the back label and screws with regular ones, so it looks even closer to a real game.
Nintendo 64
-Jet Force Gemini
-Bomberman 64
Playstation
Gran Turismo
-Was $4.99 complete
Playstation 2
-Ar Tonelico
Xbox 360 (all games were $9.99 each)
-The First Templar
-Divinity II
-Two Worlds II
Nintendo DS
-Mario & Luigi: Bowser Inside Story
What I really want to get in the future (assuming I can get them for not too much):
-Robotrek (SNES)
-Journey to Silius (NES)
-Rocket Knight Adventures (Sega Genesis)
-NSMBWii U
-Mario Kart Wii U
-Zelda Wind Waker remake (Wii U)
-Possibly the new Sonic game (Wii U)
Of course those purchases will most likely be scattered through the next months or seasons, especially if I make more interesting discoveries.

Got The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for N64
Seems the cartridge is heavier than most others.

Some carts have more rf shielding in them I think. (That's a bit of metal to protect the circuitry from interference.)
