The C64 had a serial port (a precursor to today's USB). You could daisy chain up to 4 devices (printers, floppy drives, etc) to this port. The regular C64 had a different port specifically for the tape drive.

Oh ok so you need to buy the drives separately? D: That sucks because the C64 I saw didn't seem to have any. I guess I could check on Ebay how much those drives cost before, in case. :P (I know certain consoles/computer add-ons and games can go up for $500-8000)

I think juju knows how to speak in binary so that instead of loading the program code via tapes, he wants to speak it... O.O

If you buy a standard C64 or standard C128, then you will need to buy a 1541, 1571, or 1581 floppy drive. A trusty 1541 will run you only $20 on ebay.

Or you could buy an SX-64 with a built in 1541 floppy drive.

Note: that guy is crazy... $750 for a C128D... absolute madness.

The C128 is quite a cool computer... It contains 2 completely different CPUs: a 2 MHz MOS 8502 (100% compatible with C64's MOS 6510) and a 4MHz Z80.

The C128 had 3 modes of operation: C128 mode, C64 mode, and CPM mode (using the Z80). Very cool!

I made a cable that allows me to connect my pc via the printer port to the c64's floppy drive's serial. Now I can use physical floppies with my winvice emulator. So I can edit, write and read files from them. It's a good way to back up old homebrew software or my SID music files. It's also great for pirating games (and playing new releases such as canabalt64 and vvvvvv64 )

Oh wow, that's pretty cool. I think Spectrums were more popular in the UK though. It seems a bit surprising that you grandparents have one (unless they're British).

They live in Tanzania. My uncle (whom it used to belong to) went to university in England, so he might have gotten it there.

I made a cable like that too. I think it is called the X1541 cable. Very useful cable. Which utility do you use to make use of the drive on the PC? I use an old program called Star Commander.

I still have my old Timex Sinclair 1000. It's basically the USA version of the Sinclair ZX-81 but with twice the RAM -- a whopping 2KB. LOL!

Didn't someone do some sort of Wolfeinstein/Doom clone for the ZX Spectrum? Also I remember the ZX Spectrum emulator for the TI-92+. I forgot if there was a 89 version, though.

Ah ok, makes sense. :) One cool thing about the ZX Spectrum is that they are a Z80 based machine. :D
