[Help] TI-Nspire Classic Clickpad - now a nice boat anchor?
« on: March 19, 2012, 12:29:00 pm »
So I got my "new" used TI-Nspire today after waiting for it to ship to me from Amazon for like a week. ;D

Unfortunately, it only came with the 84+ keypad, and it won't even boot (or turn on, for that matter, it appears). :'(

For the record, yes, it has fresh batteries in it, I have already tried connecting it to a computer (unsuccessfully - although the computer seems to think something is connected?), and I have also pressed the reset button, still to no avail.

Does anyone with Nspire expertise (Critor?) have any idea what could be wrong with it or what I can do to fix it?

(I can post pictures upon request)

Thanks in advance!

     Cheers,
     MM

Be sure to use brand new batteries.

TI-Nspire Clickpads stubornly refuse to boot if they don't like your batteries.

nope, that wasn't the issue - I just tried with a different fresh set of batteries.  Any other ideas?  (Should I try taking it apart?)

Edit: TILP detects my calc!  Of course, as a TI-84+SE (as it should), but hey, that's something, so the device is on, just not responding.  Hmmmmm...

Mighty Moose, my old Nspire has the same issue as well. I personally think it might have something to do with the screen itself, but I never figured out what truly caused it.

Spoiler For IMPORTANT NEWS!:
Late last night, Quebec was invaded by a group calling themselves, "Omnimaga". Not much is known about these mysterious people except that they all carried calculators of some kind and they all seemed to converge on one house in particular. Experts estimate that the combined power of their fabled calculators is greater than all the worlds super computers put together. The group seems to be holding out in the home of a certain DJ_O, who the Omnimagians claim to be their founder. Such power has put the world at a standstill with everyone waiting to see what the Omnimagians will do...

Wait... This just in, the Omnimagians have sent the UN a list of demands that must be met or else the world will be "submitted to the wrath of Netham45's Lobster Army". Such demands include >9001 crates of peanuts, sacrificial blue lobsters, and a wide assortment of cherry flavored items. With such computing power stored in the hands of such people, we can only hope these demands are met.

In the wake of these events, we can only ask, Why? Why do these people make these demands, what caused them to gather, and what are their future plans...

Well, I would, but before I go spending more money on this thing, I want to see if it is really worth it :).

Mighty Moose, my old Nspire has the same issue as well. I personally think it might have something to do with the screen itself, but I never figured out what truly caused it.

I'm thinking about taking it apart and checking the screen assembly.  Maybe one of the screen cables is loose.

Edit: And of course, I just realized I can't open it up because don't have the right kind of screwdriver...

Try borrowing a friend's clickpad if you know anyone else with an Nspire.

Are you wondering who Sammy is? My avatar is Sammy.

They do? Is this the problem HOMER-16 was mentioning?
I remember ndless1.1 didn't like batteries being kept put and every time you wanted to turn the calc on you'd have to remove and place again a battery.
Getting a clickpad is recommended, though.

Good news!

I was able to dump my nspire thanks to my friend's clickpad, ndless 1.1.1, and critor's polydumper!  The screen was still dead, so I did this completely "blind" - that is, without being able to see the screen at all.

Alas, nothing much interesting to report: OS 1.3.2438, Boot2 1.1.8981, and some diags software, but no rare OS this time :P.  I'm still planning on returning it, though; at this point, it's more trouble than it's worth.

     Cheers!

Did you tried increasing the contrast to see if it makes any difference?

The shortcut is ctrl + plus

I didn't get a chance to try with the clickpad, but I did try with the 84+ keypad (no success obviously).  It only came with the 84+ keypad anyway, so imma gonna return it.

Hmm I remember something like that happening back then with my Clickpad. It ended up into an endless reboot loop so I had to remove a battery then it was fine again.

EDIT Oh wait I remember now. It was the screen glitch, right? It didn't happen on every Clickpad models but most of them. We had a reset program to fix that without removing a battery, but if you forgot to select it before turning the calc OFF then it was pretty much trial and error to find it.

Ah yes the reset program. Forgot about that mainly for ndless1.1.
Definitely need the clickpad, so you can access those OS resetting options (remove OS, format files and OS etc.)
