86
« on: January 09, 2011, 06:19:51 pm »
Has anyone successfully managed to send this RPG to their TI-86? I tried on TI-Connect with my SilverLink and the group gives me an incompatible file type error. When I ungroup the files prior sending them, they corrupt during transfer, ending up into 23-64 KB files on my calc, which freezes my calculator when I edit them. ???

We have an 86 basic dev still around? Sweet! I used to have an 86, before I found any sort of online resources except ticalc itself. Nothing had been updated for several years :( Now we have new stuff there :)

Oh, except I was looking in asm :P

There should be an 86 emu for nspire :) and maybe a KnightOS port too J/K :P

No but I have problems sending stuff to my TI86. Ti connect doesn't seem to like a lot of the older files made for the TI-86 for some reason. I'll try later and see if I have any success.

Yeah there are still 86 coders it seems. Sadly, like 68K coders, they won't get much attention anymore, though, since very few people still use these calc models anymore. However there are some cool games for the 86 and 68K calcs.

Also I e-mailed the author for help and he sent me another version that was split in 2 groups, but it didn't work either. One of the game file was filled with random garbage and most pictures that successfully sent to the calc were offset by several pixels

Tell him to send you just the program files and pic files, in a zip or something. There is a program for extracting groups. Unfortunately, It's always been glitchy. The group format comes (I believe) from Graph link. The 86 has no groups on calc, since theres no archive, there's little point.

Yeah that's what I did. I guess he most likely used Graph Link. Sadly, I use a 64 bit OS so I can't open 16 bit applications. I can't use Virtual PC either because my version of Windows 7 doesn't support it.

Groups for older calcs were more to make file transfer much easier.

Just tried to send this to my calc. The same exact thing happens to me. It appears that the group is either corrupted or is an outdated group file. =(

Yeah I fear he might use a different software that is not supported anymore. He sent me a new version, though, so it's fine. Game seems kinda cool, although the first battle is friggin hard. Also the first time the game is ran a lot of programs need to be tokenized so it takes a while to load, then the second time it loads faster

I just sent the author an email (forgot the subject line...) suggesting he re-upload it as a zip. I am a fan of Tactics myself, so hopefully he re-uploads it soon. =)

Yeah me too. Do you think I should invite him here? One worry I have is that almost nobody here got a TI-86, so like TC01 stuff, his projects, if any, might barely get any attention. :( On ticalc, however, some visitors still seem to download 86 games, since he got 13 downloads in the past day.

BTw I'm still playing right now. Game seems kinda good for BASIC standards and is above all other 86 BASIC RPGs in quality (see Omnimaga defunct RPG section). The only problem besides the initial loading time is that attacks misses way too often, so during a battle you and the enemy might spam attacks for about 3 rounds until one land a successfull hit.

As for now, I'm currently looking to make sure this game is not just a battle-arena-based RPG (where all you do is fight without exploring anything/doing quests other than just fighting), and if it's not just an arena game, I might post a news later about it.

Sounds cool. An invite might not be bad, I kinda wondered if you had mentioned Omnimaga in your first email to him. I know a few of us have TI-86es anyway; you, me TCo1, Assembly Bandit and TI-freak Fryedsoft might, I'm unsure... . And yea, loading time is a downside of BASIC on the TI-85 and TI-86. =(

I don't remember. I just mentionned that I made many TI-83+ BASIC RPGs several years ago. I myself never played 86 BASIC games because most were low quality and 86 BASIC is much slower than 85 BASIC, but this game is quite well done I guess for 86 BASIC standards.

I still don't get why 85 BASIC is faster than 86 BASIC, considering the 86 is an enhanced version of the 86.
