Backwards Compatibility?

Hello! I am planning on getting a TI-89 Titanium, and would like to know if programs made for earlier calculators, like the TI-84 Plus will work on it. Thanks.

No, sorry, programs written for the TI-84 Plus will not work on the TI-89 Titanium. Most Ti-89 programs should work on the TI-89 Titanium, though.

No, that's not true. Although Bfr is correct, there is a possibility using MulTI. Check out
http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/388/38820.html
. It works for ION stuff (I think) and only some games.

Is that program reliable enough for it to be worth me getting a TI-89 Titanium?

Well, you probably shouldn't get a TI-89 Titanium just for games.
Also, note that most TI-89 games work on the TI-89 Titanium, and most ones that don't can be fixed with a "Ghostbuster" program (it's name is something like that...). You could just get a regular TI-89 for a cheaper price too.
One more thing - the TI-89 Titanium is about as expensive as a TI-84+ Silver Edition (and there are the TI-84+ and regular TI-83+, which is 99% compatible, each for a less expensive price, and most TI-84+ SE/TI-83+ SE gamees will work on them too).

a lot of games for the 83+/84+ were also ported to the 89. You could probably find 89 versions of Phoenix, Falldown, etc on ticalc.org.
And the 89 has so many other good games in grayscale too.

Yeah, don't worry, I wouldn't get a calculator just to play games on. I just want one capable of it. Especially those awesome ones for the TI-83 Plus SE, TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus SE!

My personal recommendation is to get it! You can play some (not sure about reliability) 83/84 games (non-ported). You can play awesome games in grayscale. TI-Basic is a little different, but it's intuitive. And it's great for math!

You can find 83+SEs for next to nothing on ebay right now... So you can get both, and play games from both worlds
