BRICKED CALC! PLZ HELP!!!
« on: May 28, 2011, 09:34:39 am »
After using the Ndless 2.1.0 Installer on my TI-Nspire CAS Touchpad (with OS 2.1.0 installed) for quite a while, I had recently encountered an error in which the calculator crashed immediately after running ndless :(. After a number of days without any Ndless version installing correctly, I had decided to re-install the Operating System, BAD IDEA. After attempting this, old OS has become unusable >:( and reinstalling, no matter how many times, simply fails; the only message which appears is the standard "Operating system not found. Install OS now,".

What should I do, Omnimaga? Is there a way to reformat my calc to reinstall OS 2.1.0 successfully; or will I be forced to send my calc away for repair? Is there a way to fix this at home with the RS port on the bottom of the calc? Will TI even accept the calc, let alone refrain from installing the new OS 3.0 on it?

One positive I may add is in the form of the TI-Nspire STudent Software. I had noticed that by opening the program, I was able to view the calc's contents in the My Files/handheld tab, reguardless of the state of the OS. One file in particular, however, seems to be undeletable, being a glitchy "Program Files" folder with a further glitched 0kB "mviewer.tns" inside.
Would this be the root of the problem? When I had opened the folder on the Calc prior to the OS installation, I was able to "delete" the folder, but it would reappear. Deleting it after the attempted installation on the PC Student Software results in an error only. Is this fammiliar in any way to your own calcs?

tl;dr: As stated earlier, I have no OS installed on my calculator, and reinstallation is apparently (due to a corrupt file?) impossible. What should or can I do?

Thank you, whoever has bothered to read this post (regardless of capitalisation or overuse of exclamation points in the title).

Try to delete the documents from the maintenance menu (key combo "Doc+Enter+EE", see http://hackspire.unsads.com/wiki/index.php/Operating_System ) and reinstall the OS again.

What does "reinstalling, no matter how many times, simply fails" mean exactly? What do you see on the computer side?

Hey ExtendeD.

The reinstallation comment was actually referring to the attempted reinstallations of OS 2.1.0 onto the OS-less Nspire using the "TI-Nspire CAS Computer Software" on CD. I had repeatedly sent (supposedly successfully) the same handheld image of the 2.1.0 CAS (from the TI website) multiple times to the calculator. What the nspire labels as a "Software Update," however, does not seem to install past roughly 50%, and displays a message of error below; booting each time respectively then the same message of an absent operating system, and to install a new one.

Thanks for the maintenence related solutions. I'll try a few for the moment (start at wiping smaller to larger parts)

But what's the error message shown on the computer side? "Operating system not found. Install OS now" is the calculator-side message.

There is actually no PC side error message on the compute side, or rather was no PC side error message.

I've just come to resolve the issue via the reformatting of my harddrive. Although I had isolated the problem to a corrupt "~\documents\Program Files\mviewer.tns" file, formatting the entire system was the only means of removing it.

Thanks for the tips, by the way. The only solid evidence I had was virtually that "NDless doesnt werk the OS crashes" to begin with, and boot2 Maintenance had solved the majority of problems.

That sucks you had to reformat everything :/. Sometimes this happens when TI-Connect stops working too.

Your calc is fine now, right?

Yeah, everything's 100% functional now, besides losing small amount of homework records and the [cough] majority of my Nintendo projects [/cough].

In the end, I'm just glad to actually able to do my VCE schooling. Since the majority of Years 11-12 are strongly TI-Nspire based (graph and compare), Omnamaga's just inadvertently kept me from the life of a garbageman.

Thanks for the help.
