Calc crushed!!
« on: August 02, 2011, 07:44:36 am »
Sorry that I open a new Topic again, but the degree of destruction of my TI has reached a new level!

My OS:    2.43
TI type:   TI 84+

I was deleting the full archieve.
Then, today, I was trying a selftest, too. (MODE, ALPHA, S)
It told me:
BOOT Code 1.02
DASE Code 2.43
Enter Self-Test?
This will delete all memory
Press [ON] to cancel
     I pressed ENTER
START?
     I pressed ENTER
24075
     I pressed ENTER
0
ROM FAIL
     I pressed ENTER
Ramclear!

I made it again, but the second time, it wasn’t 24075, which was shown.
The number has changed.
I repeated it a few times:

I don't think this is good (I'm sure this is very bad), so I opened a new topic because I have no idea what to do!!!

But I have an idea what was the cause of all this:
I downloadad an ASM-program, which allowed me to write a short text, which will be shown in 2ND + MEM => About
The program was aboutnam
after I made this, it has all bogone.

So, what is exactly wrong?  All that you seem to have done is conducted self test mode a few times and gotten slightly different numbers.. What's wrong with that?  Is it causing any issues?

If I make the selftest, it tells me ROM FAIL
4 days ago, everything was ok when I started selftest.

... But is anything besides that acting weird at all?  My calc says "ROM fail" every now and then as well, and it's been fine for >3 years now.

well, sometimes, I still have large font when I draw something (the coordinats are hown large)
And sometimes it's RAMCLEAR even if I haven't done anything.
And all my older problems.
This is my 3. or 4. Post in cause of problems with my TI!
I wasn't able to delete my OS
It always told me ERR:MEMORY
...
Even thepenguin77 told me that the reactions or my TI are "Interresting"...

And now even the selftest says me ROM FAIL

BrandonW:   If your calculator says "ROM FAIL" during the self test, then you've modified the OS somehow, and the OS checksum is now invalid because of it. The only side effect is that the self test gives you "ROM FAIL", as you've discovered. To fix it, re-send the OS.

I wouldn't take that to mean your calculator necessarily has something wrong with it.

You mean BrandonW is. ;) And neither of us said that he should be buying a new calc.

Well I said that, but you quoted Brandon so it is half of you saying it. (If that makes any sense.)

I'm unsure really, it definitively seems the calc is busted. Usually it might be the flash that is corrupted, but I'm unsure how it can be fixed.

1) Try to send another OS via ON+DEL.
2) During the OS transfer (like around 7% transfer), remove a battery or the cable. This will make your calc without an OS.
3) When the calc is turned OFF, press MODE (or maybe you have to hold down MODE then press ON, or vice-versa).
4) Wait until the Testing Flash counter has finished. Some people says it takes a few minutes, but I've seen stuff about how it takes one or two weeks. Not sure how true the latter is. In any case, make sure you got strong batteries.
5) If anything wrong or special occur during the counting, there might be something wrong with what the calculator boot code is testing (usually the flash memory, the LCD, keypad, etc).

However afterward I'M not sure if there is any solution to fix your machine.
