Have you tried buying a clickpad from ebay and putting in the calc?
Mighty Moose, my old Nspire has the same issue as well. I personally think it might have something to do with the screen itself, but I never figured out what truly caused it.
Be sure to use brand new batteries.TI-Nspire Clickpads stubornly refuse to boot if they don't like your batteries.

Is this the problem HOMER-16 was mentioning?I remember ndless1.1 didn't like batteries being kept put and every time you wanted to turn the calc on you'd have to remove and place again a battery.Getting a clickpad is recommended, though.
