this is in randomness because i dont want to bug people
no matter what i do tilp refuses to recognize either my 83+ or 84+se
it is recognizing the link cable(silverlink usb on port #1), but refuses that there's anything connected on the other end.
now what?

Sorry, I moved the topic since some other people might need help on the same thing in the future and people might miss your question, especially that soon, people are going to look for calc help more due to school. It is fine to ask questions when you cannot figure out something. What OS are you running, though? This might help Lionel if this happens to be a TiLP issue, since he might notice the topic easier. Don't be afraid of using the help and support section, unless of course the question was asked 100 times before

Can you link the 83+ to the 84+ SE? Does that work?
Do you have the USB cable that comes with the 84+ SE (the mini-USB to USB cable)? Does that work?
Have you tried TI Connect? Did that work?
If you have the USB linking cable and that works, the problem is probably with your cable. If it doesn't work, I recommend trying TI Connect to see if the problem is with TiLP or with your calculators.

The userbars in my sig are links embedded links.
And in addition to calculator (and Python!) stuff, I mod Civilization 4 (frequently with Python).

Indeed, what OS and TILP version are you using ?
Have you fully uninstalled (including drivers) TI-Connect if it was installed, before installing TILP ? Windows does not like having two drivers for the same piece of hardware, and TI-Connect and TILP
can't
use each other's drivers.

i had been up for a long time and was very frustrated when i posted this...
after a bit of tinkering i finally got it to recognize my 83+(although it's very delicate and any jostling can break the connection), but the 84+SE still doesnt show up. dont worry yourselves over it, im pretty sure the problem is just that my cable is screwy somehow(it's kind of funny that the comp link cable i bought is wearing out more quickly than the home-made, 10 foot calc to calc cord i put together at the same time
). i'll continue to work with it, but if all else fails i can just transfer everything to my 83+ first.
thanks for replying and sorry to bug everyone

Sometimes, using the crap software that comes with the calc is best.
Just sayin'.

Yeah sometimes that happens
Not saying that TiLP is bad, though. It's just that sometimes, TI-Connect may happen to work (yes, it's rare) and TiLP will be a bit harder to get to work
At least TI softwares can sometimes work. It's a start
Anyway hope you issue is solved. In my case I am stuck with a different issue: the lack of a serial port on my new computer and not having a Silverlink. This means if I want to send something to my 83+, I need to send it to my TI-Nspire first.

Well, it could be more an issue with his cables than a computer software issue
Unless, that is, he didn't properly uninstall the TI-Connect drivers, if TI-Connect had been installed before TILP. For licensing and trustworthiness (what if they suddenly locked down functionality ?) issues, TILP can't use TI-Connect's driver, and for licensing issues, TI-Connect can't use TILP's drivers either.
