Very few of us are professionals at calculator stuff, and many or most of us started off exactly where you are. What exactly do you want to learn or be able to do? If you have a specific goal in mind it will be easier to help.
Also, welcome to the forums!

Well I am a boss at menus, I can't seem to understand hotkeys and I have made a few programs that calculate area and perimeter of shapes. That's pretty much all I've got

http://tibasicdev.wikidot.com/starter-kit
This really helped me when I was first starting to program. I know that it can take some fiddling and time to understand some of these concepts as a beginner, but keep pushing your limits. Use the knowledge you learn in the Starter Kit often, building programs that go out of their way to use newly learned techniques. Once you've learned something, move on to the next thing and learn that.
Once you get to be pretty good, I reccommend switching over to third party basic libraries (
http://dcs.cemetech.net/index.php/Third-Party_BASIC_Libraries
or
http://dcs.cemetech.net/index.php/Third-Party_BASIC_Libraries_%28Color%29
). They are really helpful for creating professional-looking games and programs, and open up loads of possibilities for you.
