Hmm, I should look into that.  I've been wanting to buy an 86 for a while now.

Also, does anyone know if Emu8x requires the extra RAM pages? (I have a bad feeling that it does.)
I don't think it does. I recall hearing about Emu8x not working on the new calcs. I wonder if it works fine with the 82, 83, 85, though, since they only have 27-28 KB of RAM (assuming the 83+ RAM is backed up in archive during emulation)?

^ IIRC, the calc's RAM is not backed up. In addition, they actually have 32 KB RAM, just like the 83+, with ~5 KB going to OS stuff.

Aaah ok. Mhmm, I don't know, then. I heard Emu8x had issues with new 84+, though

EDIT: Btw did a staff lock this topic? There was no illegal content shared nor any request for any illegal content. Or is it just the OP that locked it himself due to problem being solved?

It does, seeing as I'm the one who first brought the no XRAM issue up after noticing Emu8x didn't work.

Lol ok ^^

I remember that topic on UTI, but I mostly paid attention at the huge list of failing calcs from Critor and which models worked or not.

I wonder if Emu8x could be modified to store the current calc RAM (at least the main 32 KB) to archive upon running and take advantage of the entire available RAM to emulate the 82-85?

Also was 73 and 81 support really added?

73, no. Emu8x doesn't use flash (except when saving current emulated calc RAM contents.)
81 is currently supported, though only v2.0
I've seen it proposed to just shift around RAM if you have more than 16KB free, though nobody's implemented it.

I don't believe that it supports the 73, but it should support the 81,82,83,85 and 86.

Edit: Ninja'ed! Dang it!

86 would be pretty awesome.  I'm itching to try out that 32 level grayscale thing.

You do mean on a physical calc, right? The emu isn't that fast. (Not to mention that it stops being memory-mapped...)
The only thing about the 86 is that BASIC is slower than on an 85. The extra RAM probably makes it worth it, though.
Edit: 333th post. Half evil :P

Yes, I am looking into a physical calc to buy so I can play with it.  They go for pretty cheap.

About the 81, does anyone know if it requires you to patch a 86 ROM with a 81 one? I am wondering since it makes the ROM much larger for nothing in this case

Also I tried Emu8x a long time ago on my SE, and I got like 2x slower speed in 82/83 mode outside ASM programs and about 8x slower in ASM ones, and in 86 mode, everything ran like 4x slower in BASIC/OS mode and 8x slower in ASM. I also recall getting a few crashes when grayscale was involved on the later model

SirCmpwn don't buy from recycling companies even if their rating is high. They don't test the stuff they sell, even if they claim so. I got bad experiences with this on Ebay. Buy it from another seller instead.
