How to obtain TI-81 rom?
«
on:
June 22, 2010, 01:20:04 pm »
I was wondering how to get a TI-81 rom (Legally!), since they have no link-port.
Could someone please enlighten me?
One a side note, does TI-Connect work with TI-82's?

PMs are no good, we don't want anything shady going on in any corner of this site. As for the ROM, either email somebody who has it, or do a google search
that's really all we can say

That is true. Don't PM anyone. But find someone who has a copy, like me or Brandon Wilson, and ask.
I think it was copied by hand x_x and no emulators will run it atm.

Perhaps not a computer emulator.

Hmm, I didn't know Emu8x would emulate an 81.

And kinda on a side note:
Does the current version of TI-Connect work with the TI-82?

There is a patch on ticalc.org to convert a 81 ROM into 86 so you can run in on certain emulators like Virtual TI.
http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/415/41528.html
I wonder if such ROM could be then converted to Emu8x?
Also I am not too sure anymore if TI-Connect could still do the 82. You probably need to use TiLP or TI-Graph Link for that.

Also, does anyone know if Emu8x requires the extra RAM pages? (I have a bad feeling that it does.)

I don't think so... I think it just runs the ROM like a program, or something.

OK. That's helpful since I have a newer TI-84.
Edit: Does TiLP work on 64-bit Windows? If not, I don't think I can do a ROM dump of my 82 very efficaciously.

Again, you could find someone who can help you "acquire" the ROM.

Not TI-Connect, I think you need Graph-link (or TILP
).
As for needing extra RAM, The emulated calculators have RAM, so that needs to be kept somewhere. This is done w/the extra RAM pages. Luckily, the TI-81 has only one RAM page, so that should work on newer calcs. The others don't, I think.
As for 81's and Emu8x, the newest version has support for it.
