How to uncrashify a TI-Nspire in 84+ mode (Clickpad, OS 2.0.1)
« on: November 10, 2010, 12:30:11 am »
-Nspire froze
-Removed keypad, put it back, went back to the state it was before removing it, frozen. No RAM clear triggered.
-Tried the reset button on the back of the calc, rebooted machine, still frozen.
-Tried pulling a battery, same result
-Tried pulling a battery, ON and  CLEAR to attempt forcing a reset à la 84+, no results
-Same with ON+DEL
-Went back in Nspire mode with my clickpad, then returned to 84+ 2.54MP mode, same result
-Removed keypad and a battery, pressed the button on the back of the calc, put in back the battery, pressed it again, put back the Nspire keypad, pressed button again after it booted, went back in 84+ mode, still the same result.
-Went back in Nspire mode, maintenance menu, selected delete documents in hope it will delete the 84+ content as well. Sadly, nope.

Solution I know, reformatting the calc. Any other alternative besides deleting the entire OS/calc content and re-installing the OS completly? Like, a magical key combination in 84+ mode? As said in the topic title, I have OS 2.0.1 on a Regular Clickpad TI-Nspire.

I would like to know, because re-installing the OS everytime CALCnet 2.2 crashes will be rather hectic.

*bump*

Note: On OS 1.1 that didn't happen, but I don't want 1.1 because I often use my Nspire in 84+ mode, which is annoying if I have the power management issue.

I don't know if the 84+ state is stored in independent files, but perhaps a C program could backup/restore them, delete them or patch them after a crash.

(edit: hm, I didn't read "As said in the topic title, I have OS 2.0.1 on a Regular Clickpad TI-Nspire.")

Did you try 2nd, Mode, 0, On in 84+ mode?  This has worked for me before.

Tried new batteries?
Tried pressing CLEAR when the 84+ Keypad is loading (that loading animation)?

Good luck, maybe plug it in computer and delete all files with TI Connect

Apcalc trick worked, thanks a lot! Should make my life easier when testing stuff.
