INstalling ndless....AGAIN....Fml..
« on: May 19, 2010, 08:29:11 am »
Hey so i'm new to calculator hacking i've hacked everything in my room basically from ipods right down to my old nokia n80 haha Anyways...When trying to install ndless WITH my 1.1 os that took me a month to find it comes up saying "Downloading OS version 1.1..." which is like a ok.... but then it says

"Ndless can't download the file. You may try to copy itmanually to Ndless directory as 'userfiles\tinspire_1.1.tno' and retry the installation.
ERROR (ProtocolException): Server redirected too many  times (20)
Installation aborted."

I get that i need to put my 1.1 OS into a dir somewhere but i have no idea were.. I've tried putting it in the ndless dir i installed. then i tried putting it in a folder i name "userfiles" but i have no luck... Then i thought maybe i have to put it on the calc? dont ask why but that of course failed as well... i'm kinda stuck can someone just tell me where i need to place my OS in order for the ndless to use it instead of trying to download thanks =)

That's because the file has been removed from the ti-bank server after some legal action on TI's part. Due to forum rules, I can't point you to a link, but google will help you further. So basically you download it and write it in the indicated folder.

Put it in a folder called userfiles (make this) named as "tinspire_1.1.tno" in the same directory as the ndless folder is in. (If you go into the folder it should have a few different files and folders called "src","arm" etc)

For instance C:/Nspire/userfiles is where you put the file and C:/Nspire/Ndless is the ndless folder

LOL kk never mind... The problem was that my computer was hiding the extensions so when i was renaming it to "tinspire_1.1.tno" it was naming it as "tinspire_1.1.tno.tnc" therefore being the wrong file and not working... hahaha for anyone else that has this problem in the folder that ndless is in so the one you extracted you put the userfiles folder in that with your os so it should look like this

Ndless-v1.0/userfiles/tinspire_1.1.tno

MAKE SURE YOU ALLOW EXTENSIONS TO BE VISIBLE TO DO THIS GO TO FOLDER OPTIONS ON VISTA/7 PRESS ALT THEN VIEW FOLDER OPTIONS AND MAKE SURE YOU "HIDE EXTENSIONS" IN NOT TICKED!! THEN RENAME YOUR OS TO "tinspire_1.1.tno"

Yeah I had this problem on Windows 2000 and XP too. I hate how they do that. In Windows 7 it took me a week to figure out how to turn extensions back ON for everything.

Anyway welcome here and I hope everything works and that you enjoy Ndless. If your calc won't turn ON after it's turned OFF, you may have the power management issue OS 1.1 has on newer calcs, so you need to remove a battery for one second then put it back, then try turning the calc ON again so it reboots with the screen ON (programs will remain intact).

Sorry but I had to rate down your post. That comment regarding TiLP program was uncalled for. The authors did a pretty good job at it, especially considering they're trying to provide a good alternative at TI's programs which often mess up on computers. It's just not finished yet and doesn't have 64 bit support. Once it does I am switching to TiLP for sure. At least, TiLP team will not attempt at breaking Ndless compatibility in future builds like Texas Instruments did with Nspire Computer Link Software 1.4. Have respect for people who contribute for free to the TI community or people will eventually stop helping you and lose respect towards you. I would like you to try coding a better alternative to TiLP yourself.

On-topic, for now there aren't many softwares available for the Nspire since it was only cracked a few months ago not long before people get busy with exams. SO far there is gbc4nspire and a Nspire Raycaster Engine (with source code)

TILP is a nice program, despite its issues with the Nspire.
Another problem with the Nspire is that the platform is very new, and the development environment is a pain to set up.

Have you installed the 64-bit patch for TI-Connect? That might be the issue.

Have you installed the 64-bit patch for TI-Connect? That might be the issue.

I could be wrong, but I don't think this is the issue because TI-Connect has almost nothing to do with the TI-Nspire.  Also, I don't think the patch is available from TI anymore; the last time I checked they uploaded a new completly compatible version of the software.

Do you have Computer Link 1.4 installed on your computer with version 1.3.  If you do, try uninstalling it, as Ndless might only detect the one version.

I wonder if it has to be installed in the exact same directory for everyone? (example: C://<program files path>/<program name>) Also in Windows 7 64 bits, I have two program files directory. Would installing the software in Program Files instead of Program Files (x86), the default location on my computer, cause any issues with Ndless detecting that the software is installed at all?
