Making screenshots of a running application? Ti84+
« on: June 04, 2011, 03:24:23 am »
I've recently started to use TiLP as a connection programm, and it's screenshot feature works properly, except while running an application, which just results in the programm crashing. There's been similar problems when using other screen-capture methods. Everything works fine, untill I make a screenie of an App.
What's the most commonly used and easiest way to capture the screen during games, for example? I'd like to do so (and create moving .gifs) for the showcase section of the site, regarding the project I've been working on for quite a while now.
Thank you in advance!

You can only take screenshots of something controlled by TIOS.  What I suggest is using tiLP to dump your ROM and use an emulator, such as wabbitemu.

IIRC ticalc has a guide on how to do that. If I wasn't on a PSP I'd link you to it. Good luck!
See you, space cowboy...

Personally, every time I tried to dump the ROM with tilp it failed and crashed...that was back in version 1.13 tho :P

There's also Rom8x, which makes appvars you send to the computer and then compile into a rom.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try and see what I can do, and update wether it worked or not.

EDIT:

Works like a charm.

With Wabbit, you even dont have to dump a ROM. It can download it for you.
I'm not a nerd but I pretend:

Yes, WabbitEmu is the best way to take screenshots of running programs, and it works for anything.

If you want to take some still screenies of Ion or MirageOS programs on the calc itself, you can use this nifty little method on MirageOS:
1. Create a Pic variable in TIOS (any will do). Remember its number.
2. Run your MirageOS program.
3. When you reach a screenshottable point, hold ON and press the number of the pic variable.
4. The screenshot will save in the Pic variable.
