Need suggestions on where to purchase things...
« on: August 03, 2010, 07:26:40 pm »
EDIT: Added another item that I forgot to put in!

I'm in need of some interesting things:

1) 2.5mm to 2.5mm I/O cable
2) Nspire (not sure if I should choose Nspire Clickpad + touchpad KB, or Nspire Touchpad + Clickpad)
3) A dedicated/virtual server for a somewhat/slightly (ish) secret calc project :)
4) SilverLink (known as a GraphLink) cable.

Anyone have good places to buy these? Or even better - does anyone here have a surplus to sell? ;)

For #1, I'm interested in < $3.
For #2, I'm interested in < $40.
For #3, I'm interested in < $25.
For #4, I'm interested in < $5.

Please help!

no, no, no.
for 2.5 to 2.5, I believe you can do that if you have a regular e 3.5 mm link cable, and two 3.5 mm to 2.5mm converters. Just use the two converters with the sound cord. Everything should be available at your local radio shack.

We do not need a server atm for our secret-ish project.

I would get a nspire touchpad and get the keypad separate from TI, because I can't seem to find an nspire without a touchpad, and I want one, so...

for number 4, I think best buy might have them.

1.) http://epsstore.ti.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?section=10431&JServSessionIdrootdlek22=lunfjjd0q1.n6LzoN8M/AzOnMTOogTxpQOUtxCLbx0Ka0-- (On this page various lengths)

2.) BestBuy, your local Wal-mart Office Max, Office Depot, Staples etc. If you get a touch pad Nspire, It does not come with the 84 keypad, but you can send away for one from Ti for free(assuming you buy it new in package). Also, you need the click pad to use Ndless, but that can be purchased from Ti for 10$. Clickpad Nspire may be cheaper/easier to find and should work with Ndless as soon as you downgrade.

3.)Dunno, off hand. Sorry. :(

4.)As graphmastur said Bestbuy *should* have them, but I haven't looked for one there in ages. You could check Wal-mart, Office max, Office Depot, or Staples too. Ebay is an option for 2, 4, and possibly 1 as well. :)

*Edit for prices*
You may possibly find 1.) some where for ~ $3

I would find it very unlikely to find 2.) anywhere, for <$40.

Last I remember, the silver link was ~$15, but I haven't checked prices in ages, so I'm unsure.

Ebay does have stuff cheap sometimes, but you have to account for shipping costs as well.

I got a Silverlink at Best-Buy for about $20, but that was a couple years ago.

1) Should come with #2, if you buy it with it. It will usually come with it, even when the calc is used
2) either Configuration will work. the clickpad + touch KB will probably be slightly cheaper, because most people see it as an older calc. Also, it will look nicer with the clickpad matching :P
3) Is this about #2? :O Just use an old computer you have lying around. Or, if there's a thirft store nearby, bring a monitor and test the computers there until you find one. I recommend (not necessary) at least a PII/PIII or AMD equivalent.

Prices:
1) Realistic
2) Unrealistic (think $50 if you're lucky, +10 for the other keypad)
3) Realistic, if you go to the right place.
4) I got a serial-link and graph-link for around $17 each on ebay, you might get them for $10 if you're lucky.

Just what I've seen. you might find them for less.

For #3, hopefully maybe someone on IRC have a dedicated server and would be willign to give you space on it and let you use it for your needs, although it is not guaranteed you'll find someone.

If I was you, though, I would get a TI-Nspire with clickpad. If you are lucky you could find one for $50 but be careful from who you buy it, in case someone sells you a calc and stuff is missing even if the seller claimed it came with it. I remember some people bought a Nspire on Ebay and only the 84+ keypad was not included or vice-versa.

Thanks everyone! :) Nspire buying looks bleak, but one can hope. ;)
