New Here; Need Help
« on: August 14, 2010, 02:42:33 pm »
I am the proud new owner of a TI-Nspire (Clickpad, non-CAS).  It's the first graphing calculator I've owned, although I've cut my teeth on the TI-83/84 line of calcs and am pretty accustomed to using them.

I have read the announcement frowning upon discussion of the distribution of Nspire firmware, say, v.1.1, and I don't want to break any rules.  But, if anyone, whom, keeping Omnimaga and similar sites completely out of the picture, wanted to email me a file or two, I would be very grateful as I am out of places to look.  If you know of a place, I would be very grateful for that email as well.

Thanks in advance and I am sorry if this violates any rules (which I hope it doesn't).

Well, I've noticed in the past (I'm celebrating my comeback q: )  that file-sharing isn't really appreciated here.
I can't help you with this anyways, since I'm 84+ only kinda-person.

Welcome to the forums by the way!

Thanks!  I understand that file-sharing isn't wanted.

That's why I requested that the exchange of pleasantries occur via email.  That way, the fact that the participants were Omnomers would be completely ancillary.

If you want files, you are going to have to find someone who has those files and is willing to share them. Keep in mind that sharing of those files is illegal (according to TI) and it could put you into some legal trouble if you get caught.

Everyone who wants to install Ndless is seemingly able to find the OS, v1.1, and this leads me to believe that there are places where it is available of which I am not aware.  Maybe someone could point me in the right direction (NOT over this forum, of course) and there is nothing particularly felonious about sharing the name of a website.  I just want to install Ndless, and nearly all the members here who own an Nspire installed it somehow.

Sorry, but none of the members of the forums can give you this OS.  Also, we don't provide links because another TI website, TI-Bank, recieved a DMCA for hosting this OS.  Although a link would not technically be hosting it, we do not want to get into any trouble with TI.

There are places out there where you can get this OS.  The only help I will give you is that the full version number is 1.1.9253 for NON CAS.  Google is your friend. ;)

Good luck! :)

Thanks...I've already tried googling the full version number...any other (totally benign, of course) advice you can give?

The only other hint I will give you is look though a famous Nspire thread on United TI (sorry if you looked earlier, I said TI-Bank by accident).

As well as the person who shared them.

That said, welcome here Snispire and sorry for the very long registration process. This normally never happens, but the proxy you are using is blacklisted on SFS website due to spambots, so when you signed up, it automatically locked down your forum account. I manually approved it earlier, as your nickname looked very close to "Nspire", thus, legit.

Good luck finding a copy of TI-Nspire OS 1.1. I hope at one point, Ndless comes out for OS 1.7 and 2.0. I am surprised it's not available on torrent sites, though. Everytime I check it matches 0 results. Maybe trackers are blocked in Canada, though.

Yes, I managed to procure a copy.  Thanks to everyone who emailed me (you know who you are).

I was wondering about the power management bug present in this iteration of the OS as I heard Calc84 made a patch.  Anyone know where I could find it/how to install it?

I'm not using a proxy.  I'm using Netscape (AOL).

Aside from that, don't worry about it, DJ.  It was no big deal.

Glad to hear you found it!

calc84 did not actually make a patch for it, he made a program that resets the calculator, thus making the screen turn on.  To use it, you have to make sure you have the document selected as you turn it off (basically, leave it so pressing enter would activate this document).  Then, press on and then enter to reset the calculator.  If you forget to select this document before turning it off, you can navigate to it without the screen on.  I would suggest placing it in a folder named "a".  Then if you forget to select it you can hit on, home, 6, up a few times to get to the top, left to close the folder if it is open, right to open the folder, and enter to select the document.  It is attached.  Good luck!

Actually, there is not too much available for the Nspire now (aside from gbc4nspire).

ticalc.org only has 2 nspire games, excluding gbc4nspire.  A snake game and Block Dude (by myself ;)).
Also, you should definately check out bwang's Nspire Picture Viewer (for .bmp images) and his Raycaster.

There are not too many programs available for the Nspire now, mainly because Ndless is still very new and there are not too many Nspire developers yet.  I am sure that the amount of programs available will pick up greatly in the next few years.  There are a few games in development now that should be out within the next few months.

If you need any gameboy roms, just look around the internet, they are not hard to find (much easier that OS 1.1 ;)).
