Games on Nspire?
« on: May 17, 2011, 04:41:53 pm »
Hi guys! This year my school decided to introduce TI Nspire CAS into the syllabus, but we don't use it much at all. Yesterday I saw my friend playing Mario, Pokemon Red and even PacMan on his CAS! So I decided to investigate a bit and found these forums! Anyway, lets get to the business...

Both mine and everyone else's CAS in the school have 2.1 version on them, and when I downloaded Ndless, it worked too after installing (or at least it gave OK window after instalation). Sadly, the gameboy emu doesn't seem to work! Whenever I launch it, the CAS just reboots.  ??? I used all the files I found in the Downloads section of this forum if that helps!

Oh, and my friend had each game in a different folder with 2 files in each one, whereas the emu is just 1 file and I can't seem to find anything for the emu to emulate in this forum...  :-\

I'm sorry if I'm doing something really dumb, I have no idea how this stuff works! And please forgive my English, it's my 2nd language.  :)

Heya and welcome on the forums. :)

The version of Ndless in the downloads section is not the latest version, but it is the latest stable version. To use Ndless on OS 2.1, you need to use the Beta version of Ndless 2.0 found here:

http://builds.issrs.biz/ndless/latest/ndless.zip

It is compatible with OS 1.7, 2.0.1 and 2.1.0 . It will not work on OS 1.1, 1.3, 1.4, 1.6, 2.0, 2.1.1 nor 3.0.1. One file for each compatible version is available in the zip file. Sometimes two install attempts are needed.

Sadly, however, I am not sure if the GBC emulator in the downloads section is compatible with the CAS Touchpad, though. If this is what you have, I think there might be a Touchpad version around the forums somewhere, but I don't know where it is anymore and it did not support more than one ROM at once.

Hi!  Welcome to Omnimaga! :)

First, make sure you are using the correct version of gbc4nspire that is compatible with OS 2.1:
http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1243.0;attach=5743

For games, you must download Game Boy ROM files (sorry, we can't provide links), add a tns extension, and send to your calc.  The reason why your friend has it in two different folders is that this version of gbc4nsprie compatible with the touchpad will only open the first rom file in the folder.  Thus, if you want two games, you will need to keep them in two different folders.

Hope this is a help to you! :)

Wow, thanks for the quick reply! The weird thing is, I and my friend both have 2.1.1 versions AND touchpads (which are quite useless in many cases...) so could it be that there is some new way to "hack" a nspire CAS?
Wait..... WHAT?

Wait, 2.1.1? That version isn't currently supported by Ndless so I suggest you downgrade to 2.1.0. (Unless I missed something in Ndless development recently...)

We really need to put that link someplace that is easier to find. Could you add it into the download for the gbc emulator?
I currently don't do much, but I am a developer for a game you should totally try out called AssaultCube Reloaded download here https://assaultcuber.codeplex.com/

Hehe, now I will be able to play Mario, Pokemon and even Megaman during maths xD

This is the best thing ever to do to a calculator, people here on this forum (or at least the ones that figured this out) deserve a medal!

TI recently released OS 3.0.1, but bugs were discovered in it that could destroy your calc. TI replaced it with an updated version of OS 2.1.0 called 2.1.1, but it doesn't work with Ndless.

You can find direct download links to some OSes there: http://ourl.ca/7373

I should add 2.1.1 to the list... but yeah make sure to get OS 2.1.0, not 2.1.1.
