nSpire CX update to CAS
« on: January 12, 2014, 05:02:46 pm »
I updated to the 3.6.0.546 version in my TI nspire CX, so that's my current OS. I want to put a CAS OS in my calculator. Can someone explain me with details (step by step) how can I do it? And, if it is possible to put a CAS OS, can I put the non CAS OS (my current one) back in the calculator if I want to? How? Please answer quickly, it is very urgent. Thank you :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

You can't.

And the most amazing thing here is that you can't get backward unless you buy a TTL/USB adaptator to plug in the docking port in order to reflash your boot2 (and then your OS).

So, if I buy that thing, is it possible? Explain me if there is any kind of chance. I need to have the CAS system because I need my calculator to give me exact values in equations and stuff like that. Do I have any other option for that to be possible, if I can't put the CAS OS (like a program or something)?

OS 3.6 adds an anti-downgrade protection that removes your freedom to do whatever you want with the machine you just spent $150 on.

Do I have any other option for that to be possible

Else, what Levak said is the best solution, else you can re-sell your Nspire then buy an older one that still runs OS 3.1 or lower.

Are you trying to convince him to buy another 150$ calculator in order to have CAS ? Is that what should be undertood from your message ?

Buy a 10$ max TTL/USB adaptator. Many many many topics here and elsewhere talk about that technique.

Edit:
Just to be sure, what is your hardware revision (last letter of the right number at the bottom back of the calculator) ? If I'm not wrong you dont have a J or K revision, since you installed OS 3.6 by your own and used nLaunch, don't you ?

Not in order to have CAS, but rather to have a calc where the company dictates what we can do with it. That's an option, but it is more if he can't stand the restrictions that TI have put in the Nspire. I personally know that if I bought an Nspire and couldn't do anything I want with it, I would either get a refund from the store (which often works over here) or re-sell the calc then get a different or older model. Of course if he follows your suggestion then he can re-gain the ability to use nLaunchy, though. The $10 price tag for an adaptor depends of where he lives, though, because in Canada, shipping is sometimes twice the original item price, but it should hopefully be less money than re-selling the calc to buy another.
