Hm, well I didn't explicity ask for a new license or for the current one to be deactivated, but hey the other stuff works just as well/better. It broke itself on the other computer anyway so what's to say that wouldn't happen on this one? :P

I just got a new computer yesterday and have the same problem :p

I don't really need the emulator part of the student software, so would tilp be pretty good for file transfer and stuff?

You could also use TI's Computer Link software.

You could also use TI's Computer Link software.
^This. If you only want to transfer files, TI-Nspire™ Computer Link is faster to launch and esier to use than the Student Software. But it only does transferring, it doesn't handle Lua programs or other things.
TiLP should be faster to use too. But it has some compatibility problems with TI-Connect (if you have other calculators than the CX CAS) so you should uninstall it before installing TiLP, but then, TiLP should be able to handle all your calcs :)
I own: 83+ ; 84+SE ; 76.fr ; CX CAS ; Prizm ; 84+CSE
Sorry if I answer with something that seems unrelated, English is not my primary language and I might not have understood well. Sorry if I make English mistakes too.

Tam,

Thank you for contacting Texas Instruments.

I understand that you have questions about how to activate your TI-Nspire student software on a second computer. I will be more than happy to answer your questions about the activation process for the software and its license agreement.

The software that comes free with the handheld is designed to be installed and activated on a single computer. Per the license agreement it is not transferable. If you activated it on one computer and wish to have it on a second computer you will need to purchase a new license for that computer.

As an alternative you may download and install the free TI-Nspire computer link software. This software allows for transferring of TI-Nspire documents to and from the computer but will not allow you to open and work on the documents on your computer. To download the software please visit the link below.

http://education.ti.com/calculators/downloads/US/Software/Search/Results?cp=7&ac=9

Below is a list of available configurations along with their suggested retail price if you wish to purchase a new license.

• TI-Nspire student software - 365 day subscription - $27.50
• TI-Nspire student software - perpetual license- $112.00
• TI-Nspire CAS student software - 365 day subscription - $29.50
• TI-Nspire CAS student software - perpetual license- $119.00

You may purchase it from Texas Instruments directly by visiting the link below.

You may also contact one of your Product Dealers and see if you may be able to get a better value by visiting the link below.

We want you to be completely satisfied with your technology purchase. The Knowledge Base provides useful resources to answer questions, example calculations, and other information. The Knowledge Base is accessible to you 24/7.

TI is carrying on the tradition of TI-DOESNT-CARE :P

Sorry to hear about another bad story. I take it you actually want to USE the computer software, not just link to the calculator.

Well I must say it's a friendly answer and it looks like he did quite some effort. Probably all he could do. The thing is, he probably isn't allowed to let you install it on another computer for free. Also they can't check if you're telling the truth. It's sad that this happened but it looks like there isn't really anything more you can do. :/

Well that sucks. I remember they gave a new license when you lost yours. I'm saddened that they no longer do that...

However do you really absolutely need the student software? There are free alternatives to the student software:

-TI-Nspire Computer Link software: To link your calc to the PC and transfer files/OSes
-KarmTI: TI-Nspire emulator. Requires an OS/Boot1/2 image, though
-Nspire Emu: Same as KarmTI, a bit more up-to-date, but much harder to use

Not only those two softwares do everything you would need to emulate or link your calc, but KarmTI/Nspire Emu even run Ndless programs, which the Student Software doesn't.

The student software is probably a lot faster than any of the Emulators, and it has better integration with the OS, like copy and paste.

although pulling out the calculator out of my book bag and start punching in numbers would be a lot faster and more convenient than dragging out my laptop from my book bag and starting up the ti software that cost at least two to three minutes to start using. but still, the principal still stand. i feel my privileges has been taken away for a software that i payed for. that software is a compliment of the calculator and i should be entitled to installed it on "my" computer should i have to upgrade to a new one or a replacement laptop under warranty. this whole one computer activation ordeal is baloney. what if when i get that new 13" retina display laptop from apple and three months later the hard drive died or the logic board died and apple have to replace those and i'm forced to do a reinstall of the os, so now what, i'm going to have to re-install that bogus ti student software again, and then just to find that i cant activate it because i have already used up my one time pass activation key.

Yeah TI clearly didn't think when they designed that license system. It's totally retarded that they didn't take the fact that people might switch computers in mind. They should at least do like Apple and allow you to revoke the rights to use the license on your old computer like how you can connect your iPod to 10 computers but remove computers from the list once they're no longer in use.

I would have said to sell your calc and get a Casio PRIZM instead, which is far cheaper than a TI-Nspire, but their emulator software is about $100 more expensive than the TI-Nspire student software

I sent them an email, too. I guess I got lucky, because I actually got a helpful response!

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Texas Instruments.

I understand you would like to reinstall your TI-Nspire Student Software.

Please uninstall the software from your previous computer. Your license is for a single activation, you are only permitted to activate the software once. Due to your new computer, please respond with your current license number so that it can be deactivated. I cannot provide a new license number without first deactivating your current license. Once I receive your current license number, I can then provide you with a new license number. I will also need your full name and physical address so that I can place an order. I will not be shipping you anything, but I am required to have your address so that I can place your order.

I want you to be completely satisfied with your technology purchase. The Knowledge Base provides useful resources to answer questions, example calculations, and other information. The Knowledge Base is accessible to you 24/7.
