TI-85/casio fx7400g plus help
« on: February 02, 2014, 03:41:56 pm »
HI
I'm new to this site, so sorry if i have posted this in the wrong place.
I have been fishing through some old boxes and come upon a TI 85 calculator.
I used to have a homemade parallel port cable i used to program it with my pc.
As my laptop no longer has a parallel port does anyone have information on creating/buying an interface cable that plugs into the usb port.

I also have a Casio fx7400g plus, i've never had a cable for this calculator, are they available or are there any plans for making them available on the web.

Also what software is available today to program both calculators (preferably free)

thanks in advance

Nick

Hiya, this should be the right section actually. Also welcome to the forums. :)

Unfortunately, not many people use those calculators anymore, but hopefully someone knows a way to use them on newer computers, including building an parrallel to USB converter or something. I don't know where to find a FX-7400g compatible software, though. FA-123 would most likely be the software name, but the cables are very rare.

To program the TI-85 you can use TI-Graph Link software (the TI-85 version), which is free, but will not run on 64-bit systems (except via VirtualBox or Virtual PC)

You can consult this link for advice, and I'm pretty sure TiLP can interact with TI-85s.
Due to dissatisfaction, I will be inactive on Omnimaga until further notice. (?? THP hasn't been much success and there's also the CE. I might possibly be here for a while.)
If you want to implore me to come back, or otherwise contact me, I can be found on GitHub (bluebear94), Twitter (@melranosF_), Reddit (/u/Fluffy8x), or e-mail (if you know my address). As a last resort, send me a PM on Cemetech (bluebear94) or join Touhou Prono (don't be fooled by the name). I've also enabled notifications for PMs on Omnimaga, but I don't advise using that since I might be banned.

My only concern I had with USB to serial adapters or vice-versa is that a few years ago, I heard rumors that with TI calcs in particular, they didn't work. I don't know if that was because the cable was considered home-made by TI-Connect/Graph Link, though, so maybe it works in TiLP (assuming it can still connect to the 85)

Welcome to Omnimaga gyxile. :) I haven't tried connecting with my TI-85 in a long time. The sliver link should work on the hardware side. For software, I'd recommend the TI graph link software. I am unsure if it is compatible with the current versions of windows, so you may need to find a work around. I can't recommend TILP as I have never personally had success getting it to work.

I'm using a SilverLink + TiLP for my TI-85. Works like a charm.
