Title: Ti-nspire Continuously Restarting (Please Help!)
Post by: Myntal on August 16, 2010, 06:57:45 pm
So I just got my inspire, and it was auto updated to 2.1. I then used Nleash to reinstall 1.1 which I got from some website that looked legit. So when it loaded on the OS it just started to keep restarting. Can anybody help me. It's a ti Nspire non CAS. Thanks in advance.

Make sure you are not using the touchpad.  OS 1.1 is not compatible with the touchpad keypad.

If you want to buy a clickpad, you can buy it from TI in their online store on their website.

Okay, So I do have touch pad. What do I do to solve this problem?

While it is loading Boot 1 (the screen with the progress bar--when it first starts), press home, enter, p, and on at the same time.  Choose option 2 (delete OS), and send any OS you want.

Okay, I am trying that and it isn't working. Is it the actually 'Enter' Button or like the curvy arrow enter?

Also, Home and on are the same thing, are they not?

Sorry, the key combo is different for the touchpad, but I can't remember what it is now (sorry :().

I am sure some one who knows it will post it here soon.  I am looking on other TI sites now to try to find it.

You're My hero, I just want it to stop doing this. It's scary. I have been looking as well. So yeah, hopefully someone posts it here soon. :/

Hold on, let me look it up on TI-BANK (thanks Critor for finding it).

Welcome here, by the way.

EDIT: Doc + Enter + EE, from http://tibank.forumactif.com/aide-debutants-f24/maintenance-toutes-nspires-t5360.htm

Doc, EE, Enter, On. :)

Also, I have had that kind of reset happen to me once when I had problem installing Ndless.  It is a bit scary. :)

Lol ninja'd my post edit :P

Also, if you don't want to use OS 2.1, use OS 2.0.1, not 2.0.0. It is not confirmed, but someone had bad stuff happen to his Nspire with OS 2.0.0.

Make sure you are holding the keys down when the progress bar is about half way though.  That is when boot 2 will pick up the key press.  Also, try pulling the batteries, and turn it back on while holding these keys.  It may take a few seconds.  Keep holding the keys down until the menu pops up.

Omgg, Sorry. I figured it out. I ran through the diff possibilities and finally got it. xD
EE is last btw. I need to install 2.0.1 right? And in doing this is there any homebrew i can put on it?

Nope, you need 1.1 to run 3rd party code.
Title: Re: Ti-nspire Continuously Restarting (Please Help!)
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on August 16, 2010, 07:35:51 pm
Sadly, nope. Only 1.1 lets you run Ndless (and ASM/C programs). Ndless 2.0 is on hold because the developpers are way too busy right now. If you buy a clickpad alone (most likely online), you can install OS 1.1, though.

Also I would prefer if you called me DJ Omnimaga/DJ Omni/DJ, not just Omnimaga/Omni, otherwise it can confuse people including myself. ;D Don't worry too much about it, though.

Oh, sorry DJ. :p So, if i do infact order the clickpad I could plug it in and it would magically work with 1.1? or is this a whole other calculator? and also, if the 2.0 ever came out, that would make it compatible with touchpads? (Sorry I'm asking a lot. I just got on the calc scene today. xD)
Title: Re: Ti-nspire Continuously Restarting (Please Help!)
Post by: bwang on August 16, 2010, 07:41:17 pm
Unfortunately, you will have problems plugging the ClickPad in, since TI intentionally changed the shape of their hardware.
Title: Re: Ti-nspire Continuously Restarting (Please Help!)
Post by: apcalc on August 16, 2010, 07:41:37 pm
Yep, the clickpad would work fine with OS 1.1.  The touchpad was released after the clickpad, so it is not compatible with newer OSs.

If Ndless 2 comes out, it will be compatible with the touchpad (the current programs, like gbc4nspire, would not be compatible, new versions would have to be compiled to work with the different keypad mappings)

Unfortunately, you will have problems plugging the ClickPad in, since TI intentionally changed the shape of their hardware.

That is only with the Nspire CAS (the black one).  The regular Nspire is fine I believe.

Same if you plug a Touchpad in a clickpad Nspire. The only thing is that with Touchpad keypad inserted, you absolutely need OS 2.0 or higher.

Okay, and the Ti 84 Faceplate isn't the clickpad, there is an actual clickpad specifically for the nspire?

Really? O.o
That's good to know.
If you do use 1.1, be warned that there is a power management bug that forces you to reboot your calc every time you turn it on.

Here is a link to buy the clickpad:

Also, here is a pic of the new touchpad Nspire w/ the clickpad in it (about half way though the article):

Btw, keypad combinations results:

http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Ftibank.forumactif.com%2Factualites-f25%2Fclaviers-amovibles-melanges-t5812.htm&sl=fr&tl=en

Note, TI-BANK has no double-posting rules, so some results are in the 2nd/3rd post. Google Translate also screws up some parts.

Another useful link: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Ftibank.forumactif.com%2Faide-debutants-f24%2Fequivalences-keypads-t5837.htm

And yeah, the regular Nspire keypads can be swapped fine regardless if you have the black or blue one. The issue is just with the new CAS.

I love this community like so harcore. You guys are awesome, and thank you for all the help. What I think I'll do is go ahead and purchase a clickpad, then mess around on v1.1. As I do that, I might as well pray for a ndless v2.0. That's be epicly epic. :]

Lol thanks and glad we could help. Good luck with your new calculator :)

By the way, did your calc come with a 84 keypad too? There are quite a load of cool 83+/84+ games too, although if Ndless came out for OS 2.0, it would be insane how many better games would come out for the Nspire. I would also like something like Axe language for the Nspire, so I could program easily on it.

I think it is a little strange that they don't just include the keypad.  I would think that it would boost sales a lot.  The keypads can't cost too much to produce since the touchpads (the one I would think would be most expensive to produce) is only ten dollars, and that comes with a lisence for the computer software.  Just another think that TI does that I can't understand...

Yea, I really have no idea why they make you send away for the keypad now. Only thing I can figure is they are trying to phase the 84 stuff out ?  I dunno. By the way Myntal, do you know how much your Nspire cost?

Welcome to the community, Myntal :)

I've never experienced the power management bug with OS 1.1, either on Nspire Clickpad or on Nspire CAS Clickpad. Maybe I'm just lucky :D

This is because your calcs have old hardware, designed for OS 1.1. Newer models have slightly modified hardware that works fine with the newer OSes, but not the old ones.
Title: Re: Ti-nspire Continuously Restarting (Please Help!)
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on August 17, 2010, 09:36:04 am
Are you guys implying newer Nspires no longer come with a 84+ keypad?????

I sure hope it's not the case. If it is, then it's clear they are trying to phase out the 84+.

If you meant the clickpad not being included with touchpads, then they are most likely trying to phase out OS 1.x
Title: Re: Ti-nspire Continuously Restarting (Please Help!)
Post by: Silver Shadow on August 17, 2010, 09:39:13 am
No, I'm pretty sure they're talking about the 84+ keypads no longer being included inside the new Nspire packages.
Title: Re: Ti-nspire Continuously Restarting (Please Help!)
Post by: apcalc on August 17, 2010, 09:41:32 am
Yes, the new Nspires (the dark blue ones) do not come with the 84+ keypad in the package--the only way to get one is to request for one from TI for free.  Phasing out the 84+ is the only motivation for this I can think of.  It certaintly costs more to send it in the mail/lose sales because of not including it than it would to just include it with the calculator.  I hope that TI does not kill any calcs when they release the next OS (which I have read will have 3d graphs).  Since the Nspire CAS would then have the CAS features of the 68k calcs, it gives them a perfect excuse to kill the line :(.  Also, since the new OS does not support the 83+, I fear that that is on its way out too. :(

Well, at least you can get one for free, but I wonder if that will be possible in the future. I am even more disappointed at them now.

Okay, Thank you everyone first of all. xD
I got mine on the staples website for $130, and as far as the 84+ pad (which isn't actually in the box.), you go to this website on the back of the box, enter your serial # and then place an order. Luckily it's 100% free no S&H bs. Mine's on the way. It is the slowest shipping method possible btw. Friggin' balloon delivery.

I feal a little late to help, but welcome here Myntal!  I'm glad your problem's fixed. :)

TI Nspire - 84 Keypad = A calc with no reason to have interchangeable keypads.  TI really shot themselves in the foot with this one, as some tests (I forget if it's the SAT or ACT) don't allow calcs with keypads that slide out.  Bad TI. :(

As far as I know, the regular Nspire (w/ changing keypads) is allowed on both the SAT and ACT.  The CAS is banned on the ACT just because it has a CAS.

Okay, looks like I'm wrong. =/

Here's what I found on the ACT prohibited list:
Quote
Texas Instruments: All model numbers that begin with TI-89 or TI-92 and the TI-Nspire CAS—Note: The TI-Nspire (non-CAS) is permitted.

It's insane how high stuff cost in Canada compared to USA, when it comes to calculators. x.x

Over here on both Staples website and stores, a TI-84+ is $149 and at Wal-Mart it's $170. A TI-Nspire is $185 at Staples, although for now there's a $20 rebate so it's $165

Wow!  That is a huge difference.  I have seen the 84+ for as low as $90 in the United States during the back to school sales.  It is sad that there is such a price difference. :(

For now, you will need a clickpad and 1.1 to run any homebrew. The team that created ndless is currently working on a version for higher OSes (1.4-2.1 I think) and you can have homebrew then. Until then, you can buy a clickpad or stick with 84+ games.

Hey, we have cheap calcs here! I saw an nspire NEW for $130! Touchpad too!

You can use it for most anything 84+ related, but it doesn't support some progs (ti-boy, some other high-end things) because of undocumented instructions in asm.

Axe, and most asm runs fine, but if you want MirageOS (not really needed, but nice) you'll need a patch.

Better get DoorsCS.

Post by: DJ Omnimaga on August 21, 2010, 12:42:06 pm
True, unless you are really short on archive memory (which isn't very likely on a 84+SE emulator). With the patch Mirage works pretty well, though. However, you may forget to install it so it's better to get DCS.

As for the power bug, it happens in 84 mode too. Sadly, you'll need to pull the keyboard everytime in this mode :/
