TiLP Problem
« on: January 02, 2011, 03:16:28 pm »
Whenever I start TiLP, it says the DhaHelper driver/library cannot be found. I have tried reinstalling TiLP and Gtk. Any ideas?

So why don't you use Ti connect ? This software is good, if it doesn't work, delete the "drivers" and reinstall Ti connect.

It's windows who sucks not Ti connect. Delete the Ti's linking "drivers" and reinstall Ti connect.   What didn't work ?

Well, we'll find out in a few minutes.
EDIT: Thanks for making me try Ti Connect again. It works (for now).

Binder News: I acknowledge that you're now using TI-Connect, and won't attempt to force you to change - use what works for you !
But the error about DhaHelper not being found is unusual, if people check the option of installing it... What version of Windows are you using ?

TI-Connect is ok if it works for you, but otherwise it can be pretty unreliable. It apparently does weird things such as erasing a whole flash sector when transfering files, I think. I'm not sure exactly anymore. Also, all of a suddent, it will stop working completly for no reason and after about 2 or 3 reboots, it magically starts working again. Re-installing it sometimes works, other times it doesn't.

NECROPOST:
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. I know TI-Connect is unreliable. That's why I switched to TiLP in the first place. I already tried reinstalling TiLP, to no avail.

As written in the README, Windows 7 64-bit rejects unsigned drivers, unless you put your Windows in a special mode. You need to switch to the special mode for the unsigned libusb driver used by TILP to work :)

I tried tilp yesterday, when ticonnect threw access denied errors.  The GUI worked perfectly, but when it's supposed to send or receive something, it crashes.

btw, does uninstalling TILP uninstall drivers too?

By special mode I assume it means Virtual PC, right? Unfortunately if he has Windows 7 Home/Familiale it is not available. I didn't check the readme, though. You would need to check the readme more about this mode, unless it's actually not mentionned there.

That happens... less so than in previous versions, because I'm fixing issues here and there in the code, but still fairly often :(
Which calculator model, link cable, computer OS version ?

No, it does not.

The special mode is the one where unsigned drivers can be loaded, but it's not Virtual PC :)
From the README (the one in SVN, I didn't check the TILP II 1.14 ZIP):
Quote
5°) 64-bit ("x64") Vista and 7 default to refuse unsigned drivers - and TiLP
uses libusb, which Microsoft has not signed. Therefore, you'll have to somehow
disable or work around the driver signature enforcement:
- you can, EACH time you boot the computer, enter the Advanced Boot Options
menu, by pressing "F8" and selecting "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement".
See http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html for
more information on the 7 boot options.
- several third-party tools may wean you from that hassle, but they don't seem
to work for everybody. See
