URGENT: Bad bug on TI 84+
« on: July 05, 2011, 10:39:02 am »
Please help!
Someone of my class (in school) has a really bad but on the TI:
The batteries are only thee days old, but the TI is starting.
If you press [ON] nothing happens.
But if you press on lonher (hold it), the whole screen gets darker.
But really onla a bit. And very slow.
after one second, it stopps with getting darker.
Then nothing happens.
If you stop holding [ON], the TI turns off, again.
I've tried everything.

First I thought, It was a very unfriendly ASM program or an APP in "autostart"
but I've changed the batteries while pressing on, and everything else.

Tomorrow we'lol write a class test, were we need our TIs.

My idea is, to turn out the BACK-UP-BATTERY.
But I'm not sure if it won't kill the TI. (In cause of the bug)

should I turn out the Back-up-battery, or not?

well, I would backup up first, if you can, and then pull all the batteries, including the backup battery out and let it out for an hour before putting fresh ones in.

If you believe that it's some kind of virus or bug in the code:

1. Remove the four normal batteries
2. Hold DEL while re-inserting the batteries (you may also need to press ON while holding DEL)
3. Your operating system will be deleted. Send a new one using TI-Connect.

Note: Don't do this if you can't send a new OS using TI-Connect!

Of course, it might also be some kind of hardware-related error...

No reaction on pressing any other key.
already tried it!

And how to reset?
I can't start the TI in cause of the bug

I've given her this batterys only tree days ago.
The batterys of her TI were empty.

Do you mean for a few hours in cause of very-small-batteries inside the TI?

I've thought of a virus, first, too.
But she REALLY is noone who plays on TIs.

The only things she has, and ever had on the TI is the APP Deutsch
(Makes everything German)

That may be a little problem...
I'll see her tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon we'll write the clastest.

I don't think she'll be happy if I delete her operating system without any possibillity to send a new one on it!
(IF it won't work with sending a new one)

TYPE:
-TI 84 plus

OS:
-2.43

APPS:
-Deutsch (makes the TI german)
-And the normal APPS (Finance, ...)

PRGMs:

TI WAS NEVER CONNECTED WITH A PC

No no no.

well, I would backup up first, if you can, and then pull all the batteries, including the backup battery out and let it out for an hour before putting fresh ones in.

First off, if you do this, you only need to wait about 10 seconds to a minute.

Secondly, holding DEL does not delete your operating system. It boots to the boot code which will clear ram so that the OS has a clean slate to work with. I sometimes do this daily. Doing this is the equivalent of taking out all 5 batteries, and in all honesty, you only have to slightly remove 1 battery for about 5 seconds and then replace it while holding DEL.

So in the end, take out a battery, wait 10 seconds, put it back in while holding DEL. If that doesn't solve the problem, and you say you've already tried new batteries, then most likely the calculator is dead. You can try a new OS, but I doubt that's the problem.

So putting out batteries, waiting a minute and put them back.
Press on while holding DEL

If that doesn't work, Put out batterys AND back-up-battery

But what will I have to do, then?
(after puting out every battery, waiting, and puttingg themn back?)

No, you put the batteries in while holding DEL. Not ON + DEL, BATTERIES + DEL.

After that, you can try taking out all 5 batteries, but in all honesty, that's no different that ^^, so your next option is probably an OS resend.

Possible and easy.
1. Hook up both calculators via whatever link cable you have.
2. If the receiving calculator is being weird, pull out the battery, hold DEL, and put it back in.
3. On the sending calculator, go to 2nd>LINK>Send OS
4. Wait about 5 minutes and it should be done.

I don't have to go on RECIEVE on the other TI?

No, if things go as they should it should display a "waiting to receive os" message or something similar.

OK.
Thanx.
But I'm not sure if I'll take out the back-up-batterys.
I'll tell her what you all have said, how to do that, but she'll have to do thet by herself.

(I don't want to pay this TI, if I "kill" it.)

But I'll try the BATTERYS IN + DEL
