have you installed anything on your calculator that has modded the OS? try sending her calculator an OS from your computer.
you can download OS 2.43 here. use your favourite linking software and send it to the calculator when it displays Waiting...

Here is your entire solution:
Install TI-Connect on your computer, or find a second calculator.
On the broken calculator, remove a single battery and replace it while holding DEL.
You will see the message "Waiting... Please send OS now" appear.  Plug the broken calculator into the computer, or the second calculator.
(On the computer): Do not use the default TI-Connect.  Look in your start menu and instead run the OS Downloader.  Follow the instructions from there.
(A second calculator): On the second calculator, press 2nd+Link and choose "Send OS"
This process will take a long time either way (five or six minutes), so just let it do it's thing.

Er...

TI Connect can't find the TI because there's no OS on it.
(I think it's because of that)

No, because obviously TI Connect needs to communicate with the calculator in order to transfer an OS in the first place.

I find the best thing to do is start TI OSDownloader, select your model and cable type (make sure it's right), click Next, browse for the OS 8XU file you downloaded, THEN turn the calculator on, plug the cable in, and click Start Download.

TI Connect is a little dumb when it comes to detecting the calculator and tends to send commands that the boot code (the thing you're in when you're trying to install a new OS) gets confused about.

Not true.  The boot code works in leu of an OS.  Are you using the special OS downloader, or the generic software?

As SirCmpwn said, it comes with TI Connect. You can get to it from your Start menu under TI Connect.

No.  Do not use the TI-Connect software.  In the start menu, look around inside the TI-Connect folder for the OS downloader.

Chill with the Cap lock. Also, have you tried new batteries? Calculators sometimes have trouble connecting if the batteries are low.

Have you tried doing the battery+del trick so it shows the "please install OS now" thing?  It should recognize it without a doubt.  Can you hook up your calc?
